Travelling to Winton for festival

Hi all. Travelling from Brisbane to Winton for the festival. Any ideas on what to stay the night. Was going to go via Toowoomba.

Where is the best caravan park to stay once I'm there?

any other information that will make the trip memorable would be appreciated.

Welcome to the gang Greenbank, enjoy here and out in the playground.

May I suggest you grab a copy of the 'Wikicamps' app for your mobile phone or similar. It has a great range of places to stay OZ wide with feedback and pics. The best under $10 you will ever spend. Make sure you read a few reviews of places though not just one or two, then make up your own mind if to stay or not.

Nice spot Winton so enjoy when you get there.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

The  Tattersalls CP will be booked out by now.

There is cheap sites behind the

Australia hotel, the Winton Hotel and the North Gregory Hotel.

The Showgrounds will also be open. Not sure what the cost of unpowered sites are there but powered sites are $25 pn.

Enjoy the festival. It is always pretty good.

We have always used the Matilda Caravan Park, if they are not booked out.

Hi Greenbank

When we leave Ipswich and going that way we stop at either Miles showground, Morven Recreation Grounds, Barcaldine showgrounds, rest area about 50 klms west of Longreach, Winton showgrounds.

There are also plenty of rest areas for overnight stays on the way.

Forgot a couple Greenbank, Neil Turner Weir at Mitchell, and the town common at Blackall

As a side note when going past Barcaldine we always fill our water tanks at the showground, the best water in Qld, comes up from the artesion basin the Rangers told us.

The Long water hole at Winton is a great free-camp - 5klms from town on Lark's Quarry Rd. It was a bit dusty out there last month but a very pleasant spot to unhitch. Leaving more money to spend in all the local shops.
