Greetings, I'm new to this site but just saw on the Exploroz forum (Thread 138897) that the above section of the Stuart Highway is to be closed during certain times during September and October to allow the Dept of Defence to carry out weapons testing.
Details are available on the D of D Woomera website but they are rather vague about the closure time but one can ring the test range on 08 8674 3370 for updates.
The www.defence.gov.au/woomera/exclusionperiods.htm link does talk about the Stuart Hwy too, "
"The Standing Permission to access the Stuart Highway will be suspended at various times during the period from 1 September to 5 October 2019 inclusive between a location south of Mount Penhryn at 29.461190 S, 135.017183 E and the Woomera Prohibited Area Boundary at a location seven kilometres north of Glendambo at 30.921239 S, 135.704502 E. The closure is also published on the Federal Register of Legislation at www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2019L01036." From what has happened in previous closures the actual closure of the Stuart Highway is rare and not for long periods, but basically they are saying if we need to we can.
