I haven't bought a vehicle yet - but wish to travel around Australia (across the Gibb River Road and other off road venues. I am considering a Toyota 4x4 flat top ute on which to place a slide on camper. What are the benefits of a pop top compared to a single shell camper? I am leaning towards the single shell made from fibreglass composite with insulated panels.
Pop tops are generally a pain in the butt.
Poor insulation, noisy at night in the wind, likely to leak in the rain, zips fail, fabric needs to be replaced from time to time and is expensive.
Don't choose one without a VERY good reason.
As the owner of a slide-on for some 12 years previously, the biggest problem is the weight, so take greatest care with that.
Cheers,
Peter
