Towing mirrors

Has anyone  bought and used the BettaView towing mirrors from Ebay?

I want to replace my Mazda BT50 mirrors with something like the Clearview towing mirrors but at $745 they're a bit expensive. The BettaView mirrors for my BT50 are $245, a bit of a difference!

If you have bought/used the BettaView mirrors and needed to replace them, would you buy them again? And if not, why not?

Thanks for your comments.

I have these and I think they are excellent: www.snowys.com.au/aero-3-extra-wide-xxl-towing-mirrors

Possibly cheaper elsewhere.

Added: I think I have misunderstood and that you are looking at replacing the actual car mirrors, not adding to them.

Hello Jamjar,

Correct; wishing to replace them, not add to them.

I don't ever leave home without my 'clearviews' Oops, I can't anyway cos they are fixed on to the Collie. Best thing I did to the Collie.

I know you said Clearviews are too expensive but I have met two people with the cheaper ones and after all the shaking while driving and being pushed in when big trucks go zooming past they now have Clearviews.

It might be worth the extra few $$$ up front.

ABSOLUTELY...the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.                                    .                   Do it once,do it well! Cheers

Dont have either ( I think they look ugly but thats just me ) what i have noticed is two lines of thought every time this comes up .1 people who have bought the knock offs ,usually say they are great . 2 people who have paid double or more for genuine who will always say the cheaper product is crap and you get what you pay for.
Dont think you will ever get an unbiased opinion unless you try for yourself . as a side note check out MSA 4x4 they have a new replacement mirror in development that looks good ( i think roachie first brought them up a little while ago ) These will be worth a look when they hit the market .

Got clearview n Have been on the road 5 years. Used cheap ones for 6 years before that. Which do i prefer, clearview. Cost more, but hassle free. Still as good today as the first day. Good luck.

The best by far are the Clearview mirrors, mine are only 2 years old but not a wobble whenever a large truck goes past nor do I have to remove them when I arrive anywhere, yes you are right they are not cheap, and they do take time to get used to on your vehicle but I personally would not go back to anything else. The other benefit is that with the electric mirrors it is very easy to self adjust without asking someone else to this job. (without yelling that is).
Cheers from FMC

Cheapies from Autobarn bought about 25 years ago, as good as anything else around. We're interested in what's in front of us not what's behind us. LOL.

And here we have a perfect example of the type of caravan steerers (They only THINK that  they are drivers) that cause so much grief to truck drivers.......Were interested in whats in front of us,not whats behind us.....How irresponsible is that? Being aware of other vehicles is a major responsibility when you are driving, and using your mirrors is the ONLY legal way of seeing what is behind the van,or on either side of your vehicle.(I said only LEGAL to silence those who have cameras fitted,as do I) And I assume that the LOL signifies that you think this is funny? Spare us.Cheers

P.S Cheapies from Autobarn bought about 25 years ago,as good as anything else around.......Yeah,right.This simply confirms that you dont really care what is behind you.

It's interesting to read the above replies. No-one has answered my original post.

I've noticed this on many posts in many different forums, not only on The Grey Nomads; the original question is ignored and posters then write what they think is helpful. The only thing that is helpful is to answer the original post.

None of the above "answers" helped me; the closest was rgren2 who suggested the Clearview site for used mirrors. I already knew that; his/her post was a reminder.

Can I suggest this: If you can't answer the original post, then don't post. It really is not helpful... and I am sure other past posters would agree.

Why don't the site administrators sort this out?

Hi Tony,

I am saddened to think you feel that way. The way I read your thread as it progressed was no one actually has the mirrors you asked about. That in itself might be enough said.

I replied the way I did as I was offering a different way of thinking as I like to get different ideas from my questions. If a topic wonders 'off topic' and I get a better idea then I am more than happy with that.

I have been around here for many moons now and have seen many questions wonder off topic however, the original poster has come back on a few days or weeks later thanking an off topic reply for their info as they ended up changing their mind and it worked better for them.

Don't let it bother you Tony that your thread wondered off, as I, and others I'm sure were only trying to help you maybe re-think or chuck a different idea into the mix. Who knows it might have saved you some money in the long run.

I would rather get mixed info than none at all.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Absolutely true Doug.....it is normal for any conversation to take twists and turns. It is only natural to make suggestions that may help the OP,and these suggestions always are made in good faith.I am sure that the OP would be somewhat disappointed if there were no replies at all because nobody had the product he sought help with? Anyway,I again suggest Clearview....do it once,do it well.

I went with the BettaView mirrors and am more than happy with them. While researching towing mirrors I discovered that Clearview are indeed a slightly better quality than BettaView but they are most definitely not worth the vast price difference. Many people criticise the cheaper models because they say they are just knock-offs. That's not really a valid argument though, as many knock-offs are as good as, and sometimes even better than, the original.

In the end, it's up to you to decide whether the minor quality difference is worth the hundreds of dollars extra that Clearview charge.

I cant believe the way some respond to those that try and help.

I suggest if people dont like the way things are answered on fora, dont ask questions on fora. Quite simple really. Remember, you are the one who supposedly doesnt have an idea about your query!
