YARAKA LOW COST CAMPING

I know this has been highlighted previously, but an up date is always good.

Yaraka, about 150k West of Blackall. Sealed but narrow road all the way, unless you drive from Isisford, where you will encounter approximately 20k of gravel in part. Camping is administrated by Longreach Regional Council, $3.00 per night, or $15.00 per week. Power and water is available. Don't expect to permanently hook up to water as there are only three stands. Bring a double adaptor with a large fitting if you have one. Power - there are three boards, each with four outlets. Three concrete stands.

Clean toilets and showers, pool next door, behind very friendly pub, which is the hub of Yaraka.

Small but user unfriendly store with diesel and petrol.

Beautiful country, Mt Slocombe nearby is a must at sunset (or sunrise if you can get out of bed early enough (sealed all the way to the lookout. 50k unsealed drive to where the town of Welford was going to be build, also the monument to the shanty where AB Paterson was supposed to have written his poem "The Bush Christening". Interesting railway history - Yaraka is the End of the Line.

EDIT: we were there for State of Origin. Council threw on a bbq - steak sanga, we all watched the match on two TVs at the pub. There were at least 12 RVs here earlier this week, bit of vying for sunlight, but all happy to share the limited facilities.

Pay a visit, you wont be disappointed.

Thank you, we will possibly head there in August/September, leaving next week for warmer weather, then returning via the inland.
