I have been using both these apps for the past few weeks and Im interested to hear from others that have used both. I have found the Camps App to be very underwhelming? Am I missing something?

Only use Wikicamps, Camps 7 is left at home and haven't found the need to get a later version. I do use Geowiki to find MSO's Member Stop Overs, however it is nowhere near as versatile as Wikicamps for anything else
For almost identical info, $10/yr for Camps app or $8 outright for WC, it's a no-brainer for me. Once you invest time into an app it's difficult to change and WC does everything I need plus more.
Thanks for all the responses- Im more than happy with Wiki but happy to look at other apps from time to time. I guess I was expecting more from the Camps app. I certainly dont want to be carrying the books etc.
Unsure of what the drama is with a book, not very heavy, perhaps 750 grams, only about A5 size, is available when electronic media fails has the greater detail of paper maps and sits conveniently in our dash console.

We prefer the book also, we also use PAPER MAPS, get a flat battery & your navigation system is gone.

I tried the Camps book but for me the layout is terrible the maps have little detail and they can be 12 months out of date. Wiki Camps has far more sites and It's updated by the user constantly. With Wiki maps if you do not like them simply click 'get directions' 'Google maps' and of course they are available offline. As for the flat battery, well with most of us there would have to be several flat batteries car, caravan, phone & puter to cause any concern. How do you zoom in on a paper map, a magnifying glass? That doesn't give more detail it just makes what little is there larger.

We also carry decent paper maps of any area we visit, if you can read one combined with a compass, will get you out of strife when electronic devices have you hopelessly bushed.
GPS navigation devices do completely lose the plot at times.

Totally agree. no phone or internet reception, flat battery in the tug & you're history. nothing better than a Hema paper map or what we carry the current edition of Hema's Australian Road & 4x4 Atlas.

Ok I wasnt comparing paper maps etc, but I must say Im a convert to apps and GPS. I havent had any issues with flat batteries - we have charging points everywhere. I find the WikiCamps app gives me a much better idea of what to expect at any given camp site, from numerous user generated reviews to photos. I find the Camps app has very limited reviews and limited photos. Which one do you trust the most, one that multiple current site reviews or one that has two reviews from two years ago?
On recent extended trips we have found a considerable amount of misinformation. Being totally based on people's opinions it's to be expected. Look at the comments on any location & see the variation in opinions of each person. Some will say it's great others will say it's terrible. Who do you believe?

As with all reviews, you only use them as a rough guide. Everyone has different expectations therefore reviews will always vary. I use the majority rule - if most people sway in a particular direction I take more notice than the odd opposing views.
Pros and cons with paper vs. electronic, but at least the latter will be more up to date. Printed guides are out of date before they leave the press.

WikiCamps is great in my opinion one poster stated that with mixed views it can be a problem ,its like anything in life can you get wingers complaining About nothing, say for example the greater majority of comments Are positive chances are its a good site, and if its the other way round dont go there....

Probably as relevant/pointless as this little gem.
"And here I was thinking that wingers were part of a football (Rugby or Rugby League) team. How silly of me.Cheers"
Remember: Whenever you feel the need to correct someones spelling, think about it and ask yourself: does this person want to be corrected? If the answer is no, or even just maybe, don't do it.
Sometimes when you post the words are correctly spelt and you hit send the spelling is change automatically we all would have experienced this, and for someone to you pick you up on this there either vindictive or narrow minded...

Terribly sorry that you are so offended, but I am one of a dwindling number (NOT amount of people) of people who tries to write in a manner that is easily understood. Many moons ago I was taught that if a sentence needed to be read twice for its meaning to be understood, that sentence had not been written well. How far do you think we should allow our language to deteriorate before something is done.We already have rubbish such as amount of people instead of number of people. Then we get He gave the bananas to myself when it should be He gave the bananas to me.The ONLY person who can give bananas to myself is me.And this is just the tip of the iceberg.Feel free to write whatever rubbish you want, but please dont expect me to not comment.Cheers.

Hi Ger08,
I cant comment on your actual question, as nobody else has either, so all i can say is we used Camps 9 book and App for 10 weeks travelling from NSW to southern Tassie and back and found both to be accurate and all we needed. Not having any options we did not find the App underwhelming.
