Hi all weve been on the road since February and have no immediate plans to stop , we have our licenses and rego listed at our daughters address in NSW , our question is does anyone know the rules regarding a tow vehicle , do we have to have a nsw registered car , can we tow a loan vehicle from a relative that lives in another state or can we buy a car in another state and tow it??? Any tips would be greatly appreciated

I have towed out of state trailers for years,so cant see a problem there,but I was unable to buy a NSW registered car when I was in NSW because I did not hold a NSW licence.Having an NSW address did not help me,so I had to leave it.Not much help,but may start a flow of information from those who know the facts? NSW and WA have very difficult to comply with A frame interpretation of rules. QLD have no Aframe compliance requirement at all. If you have a garaging address in say NSW you should be able to purchase and licence your car from anywhere, providing the correct inspection form is completed. All states have different ways to get same answer.
It will give you a few days entertainment buried in paperwork.

We live in WA and tow a Suzuki Sierra both vehicles registered in WA . There is a ADR requirement for a 3.5 to 1 weight ratio towing to towed vehicle. In WA you have to have a certified towing A frame with a plate attached showing both vehicles VIN number, then have the set up visually checked and road tested for approval as it is considered a Modification, a certificate is then issued.
We have been towing for 10 months now through SA, Victoria, NSW, and now Queensland with no problems or being pulled up. Does make the motorhome slow on hills so we have avoided going up the great dividing range so far but will be heading to Toowoomba soon to take the inland route to Darwin.
