Stopovers on the Barrier Hwy

After some advice ! We are travelling to Lake Eyre in June via Broken Hill. Planning to overnight along the Barrier Hwy somewhere between Broken Hill and Peterborough as we have already spent a lot of time in Broken Hill . We travel slow . Can anyone who has done this trip recommend a decent, safe stopover ? Im wondering if any of the stations offer  campsites to caravanners ? looking for recommendations.

Plenty of places to stop along there. Be aware if you get off the road too far you are close to railway line. I thought the train was coming right through the bus. That is what comes with stopping after dark. Neil

Plenty of highway rest area take your pick they're all pretty safe. No mass murderers around that we know of.

We stop at Yunta Rest area, opposite the pub, in town. In fact we are going there tomorrow on our way through to FNQ from Adelaide.

Most of the little towns along the road from Broken Hill allow camping in various areas in town. Suggest you get Wikicamps to see those that do.

Wiki Camps list 26 from the border at NSW to Peterborough.

There are a few more if you want to venture off the main highway.

The quieter ones are on the Peterborough road after you leave the Barrier Highway as there are a lot less trucks.

Got to agree that the highway can be very noisy at night.

I came through there a while ago now and I camped at a beaut spot just east of Peterborough maybe a few kilometres.

It was on the left if you are travelling west and you can get get well back off the road and there are good shade trees throughout the area. There are no facilities but if I remember there was bins.

If you must stop on the Barrier Highway then opposite the Manna Hill pub is not too bad. There are dunnies there and a picnic table if I am not wrong.
You could probably spend a dollar in the pub as it may just help to keep it going.
There are only a handful of people live in the town and I think that includes the local copper as well.
It will still be noisy some nights.

If Wild/Free/rough camping spots are what you like, try Nackara as per Wicki Camps. One of our favourites as it easy to access and exit, a little away from the main road on an old bend of the road with flat ground.

I slowly realise as I get older that I am definitely NOT the fastest rat in the race.

Also the older I get the more I realise I do not know.
