Bourke to Cunnamulla to Thargaminda and then via Nappa Merrie to Innamincka has only got a little unsurfaced road. Bloody long way round to get to Cunnamulla from Mildura though? It is bitumen from Nappa Merrie to the SA border.
From Broken Hill to Tobooburra is mostly bitumen and from there to Innamincka (via Cameron Corner) is OK for a road van if you take it quietly. You can expect some dust though.
I would suggest the Old Strzelecki, going north from Merty Merty because there is less traffic.
Cheers,
Peter

Via Santos, Orientos to Nappa Merrie is OK. You could also go via Omicron and Epsilom too which is a bit shorter. There won't be too many other vehicles out there.

We "escorted" a 23ft off road caravan via Omicron and Epsilom in 2016, but it was no difficulty.

Cheers,

Peter

Note that as of this morning, all roads in the Innamincka area are closed due to rain.

The road closures also mean some stretches will be in poor nick until grades and repaired. The long distances mean that won't happen overnight. I took an off-road teardrop weighing 1500kg through the area a few weeks ago between the two flood events and it was a long slow haul in places.

Depending where you're going after Innamincka, it's accessible via Innamincka Rd from Bundeena Rd, Nockatunga (assuming no road closures, right now it's open to high clearance and 4wd only). That road is sealed to the SA border with about 75km unsealed to Innamincka and passes the Dig Tree (camping there too). Innamincka doesn't offer a lot in itself but there are nice burgers and well priced goods at the roadhouse. Much of far western Qld and corner country SA, NSW and Qld will be flood affected for weeks yet but bypasses might exist where there are closures.

Hi Peter, I agree that there will be no difficulty towing an off road van up that road, but (big but) I personally wouldn't recommend it unless the traveler is a well seasoned remote area traveler, which you are, of course. It may be shorter that way (and I prefer going that way), but it'll take longer, especially with a caravan. We've left Cameron Corner at the same time as 2 other couples, all heading to Innamincka. They went out through the Old Strez Track, we went the way you mention. They already had their camp set up when we got there (and I wasn't dawdling!)

All good then. :)
In the words of Robert Frost (18741963)..

ROAD LESS TRAVELED
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
two roads diverged in a wood, and I --
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Cheers,
Peter
