Tank filling problem on a 1998 Windsor Dynasty.

I'm really hoping that someone may be able to help me with this one, and if so many thanks in advance!!! I've recently downsized to the above van, but to get fresh water into the tank is a nightmare for me and almost impossible. However slowly I let the water run, it rushes back at me. I'm unable to ask the previous owner what his secret was and although this is now a very old van, I'm hoping someone might be able to dredge up the old memory bank and perhaps have an answer.no

Have a look at the tank under the van and try to see where the breather pipe goes..........it might be blocked. They are usually located at the top of the tank and go to a small outlet at the filler opening, like a blowback on a petrol tank.
The breather hose might be kinked or blocked, disconnect and put the hose onto it. Hope that makes sense RedGeorge.
Cheers Bob

I solved the problem by fitting about 18 inches of clear tube to hose adaptor - just shove tube down fill point past air return can fill with ease.

Do the check on the tanks pipework Breather as Bob above says.

I had a friend who had similar problems and she asked me to look at it.

Syptoms.  Couldn't fill water in easily, and the pump would run out of water even when the tank had been filled. I immediately suspected it was a breather pipe problem.

Under the van I saw the problem straight away,  there was a VALVE  !!! ? on the breather pipe and it was closed.   I asked her "why was there a valve on the breather" she said she had no idea.

Seems while removing a battery her son had smashed the breather pipe off.  She took it to a Caravan Repairer who fitted a new breather pipe with a Valve on it ,  and left it closed.

I removed the valve from the system and problem solved. But it was lucky she did not collapse the tank when trying to use the pump.

Hope you can sort it  out easily George.

Your problem might be even more basic than the breather being blocked, your delivery hose might be squashed or kinked so as to prevent the water going in at more than a dribble. I blocked breather might be more likely to blow back with gushing bubbles or bursts of water, a blocked inlet might run back as fast as it goes in. I many cases a garden hose (without any fittings on it) should be able to be pushed down the filler hose almost into the tank, that may indicate if the hose is blocked.

Let us know how you go

Thanks to you all (as usual!!) for your suggestions. I'm pretty sure, after about nearly two hours under and at the side of the van, that the problem was an airlock. Will re-try in the morning but I think it's all ok now. Wonderful site everyone!!!

Where do you reckon the airlock is? If it is between the filler and the tank you will need to poke a length of hose down the filler to blow it through into the tank. There were a few suggestions above of how to do it.

We have a 3 metre length of very flexible hose that we poke down the filler until the end is in the tank. Fills as quick as the tap can deliver water.

If we don't use it we can mess around for days trying to get a litre into the tank.
