Not entirely to topic but if going to Suspension specialist get them to check spring eyes - refer Rocky's advice in Technical sub forum Recalls.

I could be wrong (I have been known to be) but I thought I read somewhere recently that you can't do a suspension upgrade on an existing vehicle only new from the factory one's and before you take delivery.

I had an extra leaf put on both rear leaf springs many moons ago now and improved towing a lot. The Aluminium TeePee and Collie sit nice and level too, without WDB.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Hi Travelyounger. I went down this path last year, not to increase GVM, but to improve towing. I looked at all the after market suspension upgrades until I was nearly in therapy. On the recommendation of another forum member I then changed my mind and had the extra leaf in the rear suspension with no change to the front. Works brilliantly.

If you go to the Search Function on this site and look under Suspension Upgrade you will see the advice that I received and where I went. It will save you a lot of money and will probably solve your problems.

I tried to get information from Isuzu but just got the "can't recommend anything" routine. Surprisingly, when I was getting my latest service done at the Isuzu dealer, they had a D Max that they used for the NRMA Roadside Service, It also carried replacement batteries, tools and all the stuff they usually cart about. I spoke with the driver and he informed me that the only thing they had done to the car was, you guessed it, had another leaf inserted. This D Max had some serious weight in the back yet sat flat.

Hope this helps.

Have you spoken to Lovells to see if they do one ? Had the landcruiser done and got a new plate fitted and approved by vic roads , then notified our insurance and had it notorised on our insurance plan.

Where abouts in Australia are you? If anywhere near Brisbane or Sydney,Carroll Springs are WAY cheaper than Lovells, from my experience.Very quick, very efficient, and they certainly know their stuff! And you can indeed upgrade your GVM...its the GCM upgrade that can be tricky/impossible. Cheers

Just remember that a GVM upgrade does not increase your GCM rating of 6000kg so if you load to the new upgraded GVM rating you will be very restricted in towing capacity.

Depending on ball weight your max tow capacity will be around 2650kg if you load to 3600kg inc ball weight.

If you had been a little more specific in your intentions, and told us where you live, perhaps you would have got more help? I see little difference in opinion, but Montie summed things up nicely. If you want to upgrade your GVM to 3600kg,AND also tow a van, with your cars GCM of 6000kg,it will have to be a small van,no more than 2650kg ATM.This being the case, your 3600kg GVM will include 265kg (10%) towball weight, leaving the vans GTM at 2385kg. Add GVM and GTM together (3600+2385kg) and you are right on your max GCM.Be aware that a GVM upgrade does not increase GCM.Again I will say that,if you are near Sydney or Brisbane,Carroll springs are well ahead of the rest.Cheers

Hi yobarr

You could be correct but I talked to a Lovell's approved gvm fitter and he said a 3600 kit would give my 2017 spacecab a gcm off 7100 kg  and 3600 kg gvm all engineered and approved by RMS NSW I will be meeting and discussing with him and making sure that this true . When I find out for sure I will respond on the grey nomads site thanks
