water cost some thing like $1.50 a kilolitre, you pay for a plastic containe, I drink it out of the tap. coke at woolies is less than $1 a can, closer to 50 cents on special petrol not cheap but you need it to drive, drive as much as you can afford cheers blaze

When I was an apprentice drinker, a 26oz bottle of beer and a gallon of petrol were the same price. About 4 and 8 pence? It was a beer or a spin around the block a few times in mum's car.
Petrol is cheap because it is sold in bulk. Petrol is cheaper in the US as it is delivered around the country by pipe to large depots. Transport by truck is minimal and hence cost at the pump is down. Very interesting how it works.
My mains water costs $1.85 / KL.
Always buy my cans of Pepsi Max when it's on special at about 50c / can (as noted above).
It's the packaging and handling that cost no matter what you buy.
Petrol is what it is and always will remain thus ,take it or leave it .Water is cheap for us rural folk ,that is to say God supplies it mainly ,however at the moment he,s getting slack so we pay $180 for 18000 litres delivered.
I have to say anybody over 60 that drinks any sort of "lolly water "should desist forthwith !
On a personal side I confess to having a total disgust for dairy whatsoever [my GP and my Heart Doc are very happy though } A calcium pill keeps my bones A1 .
We pay what we pay and tolerate it all cause ,fair dinkum ... Ive got 1 mate doing Chemo every second day ,another mate waiting for a kidney transplant I have had 4 heart attacks due to a virus in my ticker and the cardio Doc sez if I have 1 more it will be Tobins picking me up and not the ambo.s! so all in all I reckon if we can all bugger off for a while each year lifes still pretty bloody good ...hey ! cheers.

We use a broom but there are many cleaners using leaf blowers to blow the leafs to the neighbours left & right with squilion year old fossil fuel. Seems a sensible use for petrol as well as the noise!

WOW!!! Eddie, and here we are in Brisbane QLD a little up set due to the price being around $1.45.
I would have no trouble in paying another $1 a litre for milk, on the proviso that the $1 ends up back in ther farmers pocket.

I guess that some one has to pay w'worth etc for employing a staff member to assemble a customers order and then have it delivered to the front door.
And guess what, if the order is over a certain amount and one does not care when it is delivered, then the delivery is free.

It's all about packaging and handling. I worked in the motor industry. Windsceeens delivered directly to the production line on a rack from the glass manufacturer cost $19. A fully packaged one that had to be wrapped such that it didn't break, be delivered and stored in a warehouse, then shipped to a windscreen fitter finally cost $190 + fitting. The markup for packaging and handling was huge. $170. No-one made a lot on the entire transaction.
On the other hand, air conditioners were imported fully individually packaged whether they went on the production line or in the parts warehouse. I think they cost about $490 delivered to the line and about $600 via the parts warehouse to a fitter. Once again, no-one made a lot on the entire transaction.
Volume has a lot to do with it too. The most smashed item on a vehicle was the front LH indicator lens. Turnover was huge. As a result, the front LH lens was cheaper than the RH lens.

Lucky for us the price of petrol has come down a lot since last October when it was in my area $2.319 per liter, but in the South Island it was over $2.50 per liter.

While I fully understand that we use more fuel, it still gets me that people complain about the price of petrol but happily pay out $3-4 for a 600ml bottle of water.
I don't understand people buying bottles of water, sure I purchased a few, but rarely, just prefer to turn on the tap
fuel is what it is
All taxes pay for something we use at sometime
