Coolmatic 12/240 volt fridge with freezer drop down door that won't stay closed.

G'day fellow Grey Nomads. My name is Graham and I'm new to this forum but here I am.  I have inherited through a used caravan purchase, a two way Coolmatic fridge with a freezer door that drops down when you open it. Trouble is that it won't stay closed when you open the fridge door. I can't fathom out what the problem is and how to fix it.  Any ideas anyone?

I just pulled out a older 3 way fridge and was beginning to have the same problem.
What I noticed was there was some open cell foam strip (think draft sealer) along the top edge of where the freezer door touches.
This had worn away on mine and some had come off. Adding a new strip of this returns it to a snug fit which will be enough to hold it shut.

I had a roll of it that I got from bunnings for less than 5 bucks I think.

here we go, found it

Hope that helps.

cheers Brett

Hey Brett. Thanks for the link. I'm curious though. What holds the freezer door shut? Is it vacuum or something else?

they normally have a couple of springs, one either side. Do a goole on your fridge model and you may find a parts listing
cheers

Sorry Hunt, missed your follow up.

My fridge is pretty old, so yours may be different.
That was all there was. In my case, that was on the top lip . the freezer door basically pushes the foam upwards to make a tight fit.
Its not in a position like a seal that fits between the fridge in the door (vertically), its horizontal. If you reached into the top of the freezer with your palm up, you would feel it along the top edge,

hope that makes sense.
