Hi all, I am 67. I have a 2017 Ford Ranger 2 x 4, a 2018 Skamper Kamper Dingo, a 2015 Fishing Kayak, a 2010 Jack Russell and a lovely 195* Chinese Australian Girlfriend. I have seen a lot of northern roads over the hood of a military vehicle and Yin has seen from Brisbane to Melbourne and back from 35,000 ft. Both of us believe its time to slow down and have a closer look at this great land. I have a daughter in Townsville, two daughters in the Hunter Valley and two sons in Brisbane. I intend to start with a few weekends away first extending to a few week-long trips. Hopefully, by early next year We will be on our first extended (a few months) run with the intention of eventually doing a lap.
I have a few questions first and your advice will be greatly appreciated:
1. Any views on 2 x 4 diesel as a tug.
2. Any suggestions on some South East Qld / Northern NSW camping spots best suited to ease into the saddle.
3. Any advice from experienced and not so experienced happy/not happy campers.
As an ex Military chap you will probably be all over this Tip already ; Have a method for everything you do and a place for everything.
Since one is dealing with keeping track of a lot of things in an environment where everything has to be securely stowed TIDY is your friend and MESSY or CLUTTER is the gateway to madness (or profound irritation at the very least).
I would expect you are a very organised person so one of the biggest things to learn when you start off is to forget you are going from A to B.
You are leaving a nice place and looking for the next nice place to stop. 50 k's or 500 doesn't matter It's hard to forgo that get from A to B mentality. Off the main routes there are some wonderful places to see.
I have been told The Clarence River in Northern NSW is a great place to chuck a line and use a Kayack.
WikiCamps for finding freecamps and of course Caravan Parks is a handy tool.
Me, ten years down the track and still trying to forgo the getting from A to B.
Thanks Yuglomron, You are right. In some of my early planning I have already noted that I have been thinking the wrong way. i.e. start here - stop there. I will revisit these plans and rethink my destinations and time lines.
Hope things are coming into focus for you. I wasn't mocking you when I replied about methods "Alles in Ordnung" is still a great way of life. Most particularly if your existence resembles an on going Earth Sciences expidition.
