Travel/health insurance overseas

Hi, I am 77 and will be travelling to Europe and North America for 6 months in April. I have been told that Australia Post offers good value, however, because of the duration/destination and my age, they tell me they cannot insure me. Other insurers I have checked out charge round $2,000. Has anyone any advice on the best value insurance for this golden oldie?

If you have private health, try them.

Expect cover for the USA to be very expensive.
Cheers,

We're off to Penang for all July so we shopped around and found the best deal for us is with RACQ.

try ''Insurengo'' we have used them a few times and they are one of the cheapest and so far had no problems with claims.
for a 28day cruise which included Alaska it cost wife and I $1250 but i had to declare a heart attack and 2 stents. some companies would not insure me. it is a bit dear but you got to have it especially if you are going to the great U S of A.

I had problems going on cruises to get insurance, some even said no or made it too hard . Finally went to the RACV and they were good, not cheap but you have to have it. I say if you cant afford the insurance you cant afford the holiday.

Another plus for "Insure and Go"  we are aged 73 and 76, never had a problem with them, 2018 travelled to Japan, Sth Korea, Canada and USA. Thought there prices were cheap.

 Hi Viv

I had asked this question a little while back about travel insurance and had on previous 8 times used Travelmore insurance, seems to tick the boxes well. My main reason for asking last year was we understood turning 70 ups the cost, so was looking for a better deal.

In the end after a lots of phone calls and advice from the forum Travelmore was still a very good purchase for travel insurance for our Europe travels. 71 and 68 withba known heart condition, 9 weeks of travel approximately  $1200.

Enjoy your travels. Ralph.

Visa & Mastercard offer travel insurance on their more expensive cards. You need to spend from memory over $250 on costs associated with the trip. We found the extra cost of the credit card annual fee was less expensive than the cost of travel insurance especially if you are 70+. Cheers,
