Interesting way to travel. Cruising from pup to pub and village to village through the countryside. There are part timers and full timers and hire boats available. They typically have diesel heaters. Took this pic in 2014. We were in the motorhome and the narrow boat facility offered free camping, café, water dump point, maintenance & repairs, pub nearby. Very pleasant. Also got a guided tour of one of the boats.
Friends recently completed a 6 month holiday of England and Wales on a canal boat, winter and summer and they loved it all. They bought the boat when they arrived and sold it at the end, there's always a demand for them. The waterways are all connected, rivers and canals. They declared it an amazing experience and unlike motorhome touring, no congested roads to negotiate. Big in Europe too, especially France. A very civilized way to travel!

In May we have booked a week on a hire narrowboat. This will be our third narrowboat holiday in the last few years. If you want a slow relaxing journey you will love this activity. This is a uniquely British activity with nothing like it in AU. If you love caravanning/motorhomes you will not be disappointed with a week on a narrowboat.
