To date there have been 268 views of the questionaire, with only 21 taking the time to actually vote - 7 would use the questionaire and 14 would not.
I feel the poll has shown that -
very few members have taken the time to view the poll;
very few members have taken the time to read the poll;
even fewer members have taken the time to respond to the poll; and
the level of interest in having, and/or using, the questionaire is very low.
The Caravan Council should be lauded for the work and time it has devoted to producing the questionaire - and like most, I think much of the questionaire is valuable to consider when buying a new or used caravan.
However, it seems there is very little support by potential (or even current) van owners to such an exhaustive questionaire.
PS - and a big thankyou to those who provided valuable and insightful comments to the thread. You know who you are and I know you just couldn't help yourselves.
Cheers - John

John,
I've taken my time in mulling over the statement & have just voted.
If I were to buy a new van, I would want to know most of the points that Colin raised. If buying a second hand van (as we have), I would dearly love to have a copy that I could tick off at the time PARTICULARLY as we "got caught" when we bought our current van.
Firstly I didn't know the weight of our car (had a suspicion that it was a "little" heavy). Going through the weight exercise was good as it taught us a lot "That you don't have a box on wheels that can be opened up for "All of that stuff". How guilty have we been in the past at running overloaded both with the rigs & with the 4WD only?
I have friends who think "all that weight stuff is B.S" - I hope they don't learn the hard & expensive way.
It has also highlighted the inadequacies of the manufacturers - especially with water capacity. Our last camper only had a 55L tank - totally inadequate for camping for four days in a National Park - without it raining & no available water. However the van can carry 190L (190kg out if the allowed 370).
As far as "success" in members voting - have a look at other questionnaires eg the local newspapers often have one on issues that are strongly commented on for the town or city. You often wont get more than 750 people interested out of a population on 200,000 (eg Townsville & the Townsville Bulletin, a couple of weeks ago).

Warren,
Firstly the proposed inquisition proposed by the CCA will not be acceptable to the majority of dealers because most of the questions are manufacturer related and a dealer would be reluctant to take legal responsibility on behalf of a third party...a manufacturer.
Just to clarify, most ensuite vans have two 90litre tanks and the placement of those tanks needs to be clearly understood from a ball weight perspective. In front of the axle group, over or behind the axle group all affect measured ball download and needs to be managed and understood by the owner.
I was one who read and didn't vote. I believe that most would settle for the third option - ask some of the questions but not all. The dealer cannot answer on behalf of the manufacturer so no point in asking them really - need to ask the manufacturer direct in my opinion. The reality is it is not a simple yes/no divide so the question remains unanswered.
Members of the forum have now been made aware that the Caravan Council have developed a questionaire to use when buying a new caravan - some people will find that info. useful and others will not. People will only participate in polls if the subject matter is of some interest to them and with a response rate of less than 8% this one probably doesn't sit that high on their list. Maybe I would take some of the more useful questions from the CCAs list to ask a dealer but hitting them with the full thing does seem to me like it would be a little over the top..
