We were up there Aug/Sept last year and really enjoyed our stay at Gday Caravan Park, the owners and staff very friendly. Couldn't complain about amenities or the laundry, spotless, definately not what you'd call a kiddie park, which was great, just depends on what you are wanting, I give it a big thumbs up.
A warning regarding Big4 caravan parks and booking ahead with them.
My research via ACCC and other sources is that a deposit should be no more than one night and refundable if cancellation is notified a couple of days before due date.
Twice now in different years I have had a Big4 Caravan Park accept my credit card booking and they have charged for the period of days booked. From memory the first was for 5 days and when I had to cancel they informed me that cancellations are not accepted if less than (from memory) 10 days from booking date. No refund but an offer to provide a site for the same period at another time if within one year from original booking date. The second was a similar period booking and when I attempted to cancel about 7 days before arrival due date refund was refused and the same offer made.
I argued after researching and the manager phoned me and agreed to a refund less a reasonable (I believe) cancellation fee.
Do not agree to pay in advance more than one night and check the cancellation fee/conditions.
Regarding the Knight's comments, B4 parks have individual park refund rules, there may be B4 guidance but they all don't all follow it. They are not the only ones with draconian refund policies, many of the other resort style parks are similar.
As for parks around the Alice, check out the two out at Ilpara (5 km west from the highway, turn just south of the showground.) They are $30 or less. Look up "TempalBar CP" and "Wanngardi Park" in yourWikiCamps. They are not flash parks but most reports say they are clean. There are extremely few bad reports on them. One common report is that people feel safe out there away from the rascal activity.

If you don't mind being about 15km out I recommend the Temple Bar CP. We were there a couple of years ago and found them very friendly and reasonable rates plus you only pay for the power you use.
Hi
Unless things have changed since last year but the C/V park behind the Gap Hotel no longer exits. The Gap Hotel has been redeveloped and each unit sold off as flash new Town Houses. The rest of the land has been divided up and they are currently building new homes, but NO C/Van park. Sad, we stayed there in 1987, 3mths and then again for 6mths in 2014.
We ended up staying at the show grounds last year, only open if C/V parks are near full, if you like open space it was excellent, very open pick your own spot either near others or on your own, power and water and lots of green grass, I think it was $35/night. Has security gates which close at 6pm but you are given ($50 refudable deposit) your own remote. Gillan Club have courtesy bus that will pickup and drop you off at the gates, so take your remote with you!
Have also stayed at the Gday Mate C/P several times across the road and that was very good also, but dearer, and like most parks crowded with little room.
cheers
Ian
If you're just looking for a park with basic facilities to use as a base for exploring the region (as we were) the Temple Bar Caravan Park out at Ilparpa fit the bill. A bit out of town and nothing fancy but when we stayed we found it clean, safe and friendly at $23 per night plus metered power ($2-3 per night).
