Arguments on solar anything

I submit that this sub forum is now dead due to intervention and antagonism between two regular posters, and because of this should now be reformatted with very close supervision from the moderators to ensure future enquiries do not get swamped by EGO.

I actually found some of the arguments very interesting, up to my own mental capacity/electrical knowledge

When they went above my head, I just stopped reading that particular topic, not the complete sub forum

If I have a future solar problem, I shall certainly be asking on this sub forum, as I have recieved good advice in the past, and all things being equal, good advice in the future

Not much moderation here . I moderate on a Ford forum and we delete or change heaps of posts . Often I just delete the personal BS , dont delete the whole post or thread . So reading by others is way Good reading .

Do we really want to much moderation ,that would be  boring, some people go overboard on subjects there passinable about so what its entertaining, its good to let things flow sometimes to A certain point I think the balance is moderated well here...

 Hi smile

Did my previous reply get moderated away ??confuse

Not enough moderation IMHO either. Posts should be kept short and not replies by the same persons over and over again full of tech BS to fight another doing the same. The persons who do this should moderate themselves but obviously have no self control !hmm So cut their posts no to allow the answers to the original poster to be available to read easily.

I'm afraid but I just switch off when the arguments get too one sided - a bit like Tony-Bev.
Those with the egos should put their two bobs' worth in & then just pipe down. Two lots of fights from one-two people is enough as it does make getting the factual answers a bit difficult.

Alan, if I had a query on Solar, I'd look in the "Solar" section first.

Perhaps Cindy could let us know how much bandwidth she has & where the forum is as far as being full. After all there is an enormous amount of information stored here (just do a Search from day dot).

My post was simply because I enjoy good discussion about solar and battery problems ,but most posts now seem to be quickly hijacked by egomania with very little information that is in fact relevant to an OP's question. This seems to have prevented people with problems posting here recently which is shame.

Gday...

Unfortunately, from my point of view, you are quite right Alan.

I would never consider asking a 'solar' question on this forum for all the reasons you suggest.

One asks for the time and one gets a complete set of instructions on how to build a clock - with detailed illustrations and technical drawings. hmm

Often those full set of instructions are in conflict with the full set of instructions provided from other forum sources. cry

However, I do browse the sub-forum regularly, just in case some poor unsuspecting soul has wandered into it and asked a simple question.

Sometimes, rarely I admit, but sometimes I am able to offer some advice from my experience with my panels.

Cheers - but the contest of who has the biggest genitals can border on entertaining at times - John

I think there might be a few suffering with trodden toes who enjoyed being the "expert to go to about everything" but suffer with a lack of actual knowledge to argue fact with fact on a technological level, so rather argue at the "posts are too technical" level evileye.

Simply "because I say so, therefore it should accepted as fact" died when our kids decided we actually didn't know everything, much like when we learnt the same thing when we grow up. Without technical back up to verify the theories so others can verify the findings or put forward weaknesses they see in the theory helps sort fact from fiction, something that has always been a problem on most forums.

Reducing the whole thread to personal attacks or trying to twist it to a different subject where they feel they are stronger and think they can win an argument that way is what wrecks these threads because the knowledge about the original topic stops flowing

Happy New yrs to all

A little lesson I learnt, fishing, years ago. When the vermin fish like Butter Bream or catfish or school sharks turn up, time to move on. Vermin fish won't go away while you keep feeding them so wasted effort putting up with them or waiting for them to go away.

Hi Iza, not quite sure who that was aimed at, but good advice all the same wink I remember reading an article referred to by a member of a bygone forum that was once a great source of information, the original CMCA forum and the link was placed by Cuppa. The article was titled "Swimming with sharks" and it was amazing just how relevant it was to posting on a forum or many other areas where interacting with social groups occurs. An interesting read and worth the effort

Even if not, it certainly gives some assistance on how to survive life on an active forum. hmm

Pretty easy to work out when a post reveals a personal agenda and does not attend to the original question or comment.

Agree Alan,,, the EGO's overtake the OP question(s) quite often,,, this ruined the ExploreOz website years ago IMHO.

I am in total agreement with never asking a question on solar and electrical on this forum.
My observations over the last four years are that there are a couple of contributors that actually have reasonable, credible and valuable knowledge and they speak from current experience because they are applying this knowledge every day in their line of work.
Then unfortunately, we suffer the interjections of some others who disect the theory of the subject with off topic rants that achieve the distraction that these contributors so desire so as to APPEAR to prove that their knowledge is far superior to the members who are providing an accurate and concise answer to the ops question.
Anyone only has to read back through topics objectively to identify the culprits.

Well most of us would hope it ended there but it doesnt or at the very least, it hasnt, in posts gone by.
We (us collectively ) on here then get the odd long term member who needs to prop up his standing on the forum by blindly forging ahead with his support for the recalcitrant poster or posters just to ensure that he may get support in return should it be required in another situation of debate. ( Those know who they are )
Most of the time there is no adjudication so the topic then turns to undecipherable rubbish.
Sides are taken and there in lay the problem.

Once again, some poor unsuspecting soul posts a question or a statement and his topic is dragged into the abyss.

Might I suggest that we, collectively do not have to tolerate this rudeness and if another member is predictably going to drag the topic from where it started to accomodate their own malicious agenda then we all should SUPPORT THE QUESTION OFFERED BY THE ORIGINAL POSTER and maintain the on topic agenda. We collectively do not need to contribute to a post that is not ON TOPIC FOR THE QUESTION. By contributing to anything off topic then we become the problem...

In my observation, long term members should remain open flexible and approachable in their views in a topic as we all should know how circumstances situations and services change very rapidly in our modern world. The last two years of Telco posts are a good example.
These long term members should welcome enquiries from newbies.
Not by asking them to check out this and that sections and suggesting that they enjoy RV life but ensure that their original query is at least responded to in a polite and reasonable manner.

If we all adopt this response then maybe just a few more newbies may just hang around the Grey Nomads Forum to actually contribute and make it a better place.

A very good interpretation and use of sections from the original "How to swim with sharks" but it might be a tad aggressive for forum use.

I think Dickodownunder my be suggesting the better approach, ignore the sharks by keeping in mind you are still inside a shark proof cage, they can't actually reach out of computer screen to physically attack you. Maybe just ignoring them and not even recognising they are there will result in the sharks looking for some where else to feed.

Gday...

I've tried that over the years, but those goddamned sharks seem to just persist.

Cindy has got rid of some of them ... but their cousins seem to raise their heads regularly.

I am a newbie if you call someone 65 years of age with a small van and a single LiFePO4 battery installed.
But the nonsense between a few has undoubtedly tainted the sub-forum.
Who is game enough to moderate because EGOs wont subside any other way..

HI
The forum has been screwed by peoples egos . U could not possibly work with these people as there priority is themselves and not to genuinely assist others . There poor attitude is like a flashing beacon .

Solar for vanning/ camping is not complicated . Explained simply almost all new to solar people understand .
Then present with options .

If Your in business and you make it hnow to the forum what your  business is ,and then dominate a section of a forum with your so called expert hnowledge ,and you dont pay for the advertising, that the forum needs to survive ,to me thats not fair on those that are supporting the forum by paying for there adds ...

If you are taking a backhanded slap at me Ron, just where have I promoted my wife's business on this forum? A link to the post where my wife's business name is put forward by me will do.

Iif not, is this just another tact taken by someone who has their knickers in a knot because their "wisdom" is being accepted as the be all and end all of knowledge being made available for free to fellow forum members.

The more of these attacks that are made, the more the attacker standout in a way they may not have intended wink
