Hi all would like to know has anyone joined one of these clubs that hold rallys and events during the year ? be nice to make a few new friends ... not so easy as you get older !!!!
Enjoy hitting the road but would be even more enjoyable to do it with a group once in a while ...
Hello Dave,
I had the same thoughts as you as my good caravanning friends are becoming a bit elderly and soon I may have no one to travel with. I'm solo (wife died 7 years ago) and it's nice to travel with company in another tug/van close by.
I recently joined the Moreton Bay Caravan Club and what a lovely bunch of people they are. They have monthly rallies except for December and I had to go on 3 rallies with them before I was accepted for membership.
I certainly recommend seriously looking at joining a similar club with the added caution that I believe is attributed to Winton Churchill; "I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member".
Cheers,
Roy.
I'm a member of the CMCA and they have a list of Chapters around the country. It's on their website and also listed in the back of their Monthly Magazine.
You have to be a member to access the list. I just tried without logging in and you can't access the list unless you do.
I bumped into a group of mostly Ladies in Adelong two years ago. They were from the Nowra region (Blue Wrens Chapter) and they were a really nice group. They had come to Adelong to visit the Batlow Cider Festival.
Chapters all over the country and also a Solo section. I'm also told you can arrange to tag along with other chapter's events even if you don't belong to that chapter.
I just checked the magazine and there are 15 Chapters in Victoria and of course the Solo Chapter as well.
They also publish lists of upcoming events run by the chapters.
Personally I think the member fee is worth the subscription just for the inhouse magazine .The Wanderer. Not 100% sure but from Jan there will be a couple of dollar charge for the hard copy of the Mag. Still a good bargain in my opinion.
It also gives you access to their version of Wikicamps (GeoWiki) and of course the ability to get insurance from Ken Tame insurance.

thanks very much for the info I think it would be a good idea tojoin one of these clubs ..yes I tried alsoto see the chapters on webpage . but as you said have to be a member .
We had the same thoughts twelve months ago when we changed over to the dark side (lol) and it was the best thing we have done in a long, long time.
You actually join the CMCA which has chapters (small clubs) that are organised by people in your local area. Upon joining you will receive either by email or post ($2.00 postage fee per issue) of the Wanderer, this along with the official CMCA website lists the chapters all around Australia and there respective events and contact numbers.
Most, if not all chapters run a long weekend getaway every month. The chapter we joined goes from the first Thursday a month to Sunday with a variation of places. Over the weekend we have a dinner out on Saturday night and other nights there is usual social gatherings, card playing, board games and of course them BS.
We have made many new friends, in fact because we have no family left we are having Christmas dinner with some of our new friends and their family.
Don't forget, the CMCA now has caravans in their membership.
Hope this has been of some help, if you have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask.

In the past criticism has been levelled at this rule being applied. It is not a one way critical examination of the applicants. It is a two way thing, it allows both parties to see if they get on together. It also gives the applicants a reasonable access to the club before they have to pay their fees. (Just getting in first to nip the criticism in the bud.)
I too have been a caravan club member. I have been a member of the CCC for 20 years and TLC for 8. I find membership encourages us to use our van/motorhome more and not let it sit idle for too long.
You have a good choice of groups to join. If you join the CMCA then look for a chapter that suits your style. Likewise there are differences in caravan clubs if you choose one of them - List of Victorian Clubs. These days caravanners and Motorhomers talk to each other, both groups are a member of RV Clubs of Australia Limited (RVCAL),
