Howdy all. We are travelling to Tassie in mid January 2019, and I do not know whether to take my tinny with us. I am a keen fisherman and was told that I don't need it over there, and from other people saying to take it. Is it worthwhile take it or leaving it at home? Any replies will help. Thanks

Welcome to the gang chooky, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Mmmm, if it is fitted to top of your tug and you tow a van, then why not. If you don't have a van on the back and tow the boat, why not, you have it then if needed. Just remember if towing the boat it will be extra on the 'Good Ship Spirit'. Not sure if extra charge on top of car.

Plenty of good beachs and jetties you can catch a feed of flathead, gummy shark, salmon,bream etc etc

Thanks mate. yes is on top of car and we are pulling a van. I have asked about extra cost and there is none. They just classify it as roof racks.

Depending on the size of your tinny & outboard there are plenty of places you will miss not having a seaworthy rig with you if you are coming over for enough time to use it

Another vote for bringing it.

The supply of fish from jetty's and rocks is on the decline here, the boat will enable you to really enjoy our water ways and the fish.

growing up in Tassie we used to fish from the river banks, caught lots of perch (red fin) trout and eels. Ask the locals they will tell you the spots.

All fresh water fishing requires a licence, all rod fishing in salt water is licence free. Fresh water is often defined as the first bridge across the river. I have fished tassie most of my life, always owned boats, frome game boats to tinnies and I maintain, leave the boat at home. You may have to fish early in the morning or in the evening but you will see some magic parts of the day, walking along a beach or sitting on a pier. Smelling the roses as you go, isn't that what fishing is all about.
