NOVEMBER 2018 UPDATE

A cow of a job.

Not a big update this one.

Not again, I hear you say down the back, yep, another month done and dusted so make that cuppa and sit back and read away. Oh! Alright then, something stronger if you must :)

I might start with the weather this month as the month started with thunderstorms, lightning and rain in the first week. It didn't last long but hit with a vengeance. Trees and bushes bought to their knees due to the gale force wind that was around all day but as the wind changed direction, to your knees said the weather gods. One hour later it was all over with just moderate winds left behind. The only thing the rain did around the Young area was settle the dust for a day. The rain did come back a couple of days later and stayed for two days so I'm sure the farmers lapped that up. On the 20th (keep reading) the weather changed yet again and strong wind but not too bad and heavy rain so again, good for the local farmers. The bad weather hung around for four days and if anyone locally had a water tank it would have filled up for sure, even a Biggy. Other than the weather the month started off quite slow really but after last month I have no complaints at all. It was a busy month was October.

One thing that did take place was I got a call from Garry asking if I would like to go for a drive to pick up some young cows, he had just arranged to buy so off we headed to a large farm at Cootamundra, about a one-hour drive south of Young NSW. We arrived to the welcoming of quite a few little dogs running around and the truck was reversed up to the loading yard. On went the young beasts, paperwork done and off we headed to their new home back on the farm in Young. On our arrival back, the truck was reversed up to the unloading yard and off they trotted, rounded up and put into the paddock where they settled in nicely.

A couple of days later I was in for a new experience, one that I had never done before but looking forward too. The cows rounded up again and into the small stock yard for their Vaccinations etc, and checking their ear tags so they can officially become part of Garry and Roxanne's farm for a while. Garry did all the hard stuff while I operated the crush, something I had never done before or even seen in use really so after a quick demo it was up to me. How did I go? Well, not too bad I spose and enjoyed my new experience. Gee, the way things are going I will be called Farmer Doug soon. Thanks for giving me the new experience Garry.

Moving right along. The middle of the month arrived and it was time for me to make a move so I spent one day packing up all the bits and bobs outside the aluminium tent and next day hooked up said tent to the Collie and made a move south. I must say here, a very big thankyou to Garry and Roxanne for allowing me to stay after my house/farm sitting duties as I really did enjoy that and my stay in the front/creek paddock. Thankyou again both of you.

Southward bound, James.

After stopping off at Glenrowan Nth VIC for a few days, just cos I could, as I do like there. I had arranged to get some annual medical tests done so had all that done in Wangaratta just down the road from Glenrowan. I then made an appointment to see the GP I see in Kyabram, Nth Central VIC. The Collie also got a service in Wangaratta. After my stay at Glenrowan it was time to move on yet again and I had booked the aluminium TeePee in for a service in Shepparton so dropped that off. While that was being done, I had arranged to see the GP to get test results. After that and picking up the Aluminium TeePee I found myself arriving at Greens lake, Nth Central VIC. The usual spot was taken so set up next to the launching ramp on the west side.  How long will I stay? Who knows, I don't, so good luck working that one out.

That covers my goings on for November so until next time, take care everyone. See, I told ya it wasn't a biggy.

Not a lot Photographic wise took place so I have included some pics from the last few months, just cause I could :)

Keep safe everyone, Ill try.

It's been a while since I sold our cows. Your post has me nostalgically recalling tending to them in the yards & crush. I miss them.

Another good yarn Doug. It also brings back memories of the days on the dairy farm.

Stay Safe.

Another good read Doug, so thanks for that

You are a mine of information, and I have learned something new today

I never knew that there was a deep space station, at Tidbinbilla just outside Canberra

I shall certainly have a look, next time I am in that area

Caravan service, car service and medical checkup! You should be right for a while now Dougwe. We really enjoyed Greens last time we were there. We wished that we could have stayed longer.

Sorry Blaze, no. I was the one operating the trap doors not the one with my head trapped in it. Although sometimes I think what is in my head is trapped.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.
