If anyone is on the road today, this week in North Qld - please take care as the temperatures are reaching highs that we only see once every 15 years or so.
Townsville at 9am was already 36 degrees - expected to reach 39. And this is one of the "cooler" locations!
Yesterday our home's main airconditioner produced 30L of water so there is still some humidity around.
Keep hydrated, cool.
Also on Landline (ABC TV) yesterday & early this afternoon, there is a feature on the Giles Weather Station. I wonder whether "Hako" (being a former weather man) saw it.

My Daughter lives in Kirwan and she keeps messaging me today about how hot it is getting. I told her to stop as I was starting to feel hot.
That is the reason I am not there this time of the year or through summer. If it wasn't for those temps, humidity and cyclones I could live in Townsville.

G'day Doug,
So would millions of others but they'd die of thirst - you know our water situation. Luckily this weather is not common; got to 39 today, forecast the same for tomorrow. Cairns is cooking with 43!!
Cyclones? The populations down south cop more regular damage from cyclones than what we do & they pay a lot less for house insurance too! We only picked up an edge of Yasi with "breezes" of 130kph - luckily, Tessi caused a fair bit of damage north of Townsville (rain more so than wind), Charley & Aivu (our first cyclones) breezed by years ago & visited Alva Beach-Ayr. Althea caused a lot of damage but that was before building standards were strengthened. -
These are reasons why I don't like travelling at this time of the year (as well as the heat down the inland roads) but family think that we should be happy to visit them over Christmas to Feb!!! I've told Pat that I'm coming home if a "blow" threatens!
When I find the PERFECT place to live, I'll shift (have been looking for a long time, though). Our daughter is at Warrnambool - it was 16 there today; that's a good minimum temp!

I agree. I move sth to The Bega region where I have a cabin in the summer as Magnetic island, where I have a house , is too hot and humid in summer. A friend said it was 42c there yesterday, and no respite in the near future. It is 22c here on the sth coast at the moment, after heavy rain. The contrasts in the weather of our country are stark at times.Hope the people in the fires in Central QLD are safe.
