There is a web site, Camplify, where you can hire out your rig when you are not using it. Many of us have our beloved set up sitting idle for months on end, costing rego and insurance and depreciation. Though you might baulk at others using your stuff, it is covered by insurance while hirers are using it. I have been doing Air B n B with my main house and living in my granny flat for 3 years. 99.9999% of the guests have been lovely and clean and tidy. My house is in great condition because I need to maintain it and keep it looking great for the guests. And I have made money, about $30K a year. Times 3 years is enough to buy a flash rig to get away.
We too have our caravan listed on camplify. Most of our hires have been for us to deliver caravan to their home (in Townsville) and set up for them to use as a seperate bedroom for guests staying with them. We are also going to rent it out to some people in Townsville that had their home flooded during the floods earlier this year. Again, we will deliver to their property and they will stay in caravan while a builder fixes their home.
