Hi was just wondering if anyone has traveled from Warwick to Peterborough SA as traveling solo down to brothers place in Yongala for Christmas
Was thinking Warwick to Tamworth across to gilgandra, nyngan, broken hill, to peterborough. Not sure of road conditions as towing a 16 van with Isuzu Dmax. Does anyone have any suggestions on various routes with free camps. Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Leanne
Hope to leave early December if anyone is traveling that way then would love to hear from you as the company would be much appreciated as first solo trip

Good way to go as there is some good camps along the way, Camps book will have some of the easy ones. Wikicamps on your computer is another way of locating good stop overs.
Gunnedah east of on right
Premier. On left
Hickey Falls about 30 ks south of Coonnabrabarn
Mendooran camping reserve
Gilgandra showground
This is just a few of we have used for an overnighter.

If you have WikiCamps then bring up the map and enter your trip.
Calculate roughly how far you wish to travel each day then look at the available places to camp. Do the search on comments and pictures within each campsite to assess the suitability.
A trip plan is easy with these type of resources.
Travel safely and enjoy the journey.

That is one way to go. Unless you have a reason to pass through certain places on that route then there are alternate routes that you may prefer to go. I would be more inclined to take this one. This alternative would be better if you are averse to hills and would have less traffic. If you get a road map of Oz or NSW from RACQ or the Hema road atlas then just look at the red unbroken lines. They are generally good bitumen roads that would be OK for your van.
The Qld and NSW main roads people supply online maps of their rest areas. They are excellent for preplanning before you leave. The NSW one is interactively scalable. Click on the dots for more info. The introduction page for Qld- the first link is a PDF file listing all of the rest areas. The succeeding links are maps, the rest area numbers refer to the entries on the first page.
Happy planning.

You could go to Goondiwindi and down the Newell Hwy to Gilgandra, easier than the mountains on the New England.
Or Goondiwindi to Dirranbandi, Hebel, Bourke, Cobar and across to Broken Hill. Plenty of free camping, road is reasonable to good. Will be hot at that time of the year.
