I actually agree, that when we are travelling below the speed limit, (as I usually do)

We should, (I always do), pull over when it is safe to do so, to let others pass

I have seen plenty who do not, and will have no sympathy, if they do get fined

Hi Tony,

I did not know it was originally released in 2015, I did note it was updated in 2017.

I would assume that there exists similar rules in the other states, at least I would hope so.

This advice coming from Qld is interesting as most of the Bruce Highway in the northern sections at least offer virtually no shoulder to pull off onto should you need to and very few passing sections of 3 lane.
Other more major roads are pretty much the same as well, the Peak Downs Highway comes to mind. Not much overtaking opportunities out there or many other of Qlds highways.

I try to move along with the traffic when towing and I am mindful if faster vehicles are approaching from the rear.
It is interesting that road rage offences may apply to motorists who speed up when being overtaken.

Not going to shoot the messenger here. All the way along the Great Ocean Road there are turnout lanes for just this situation (speed limits are different than mentioned above). I believe in the US many decades ago, if you were travelling under the limit and had more than 5 (or 7?) similar laws applied. Towing a van I always pull over as it really makes me uncomfortable with cars behind. And very frustrating when vehicles do not pass when they have the opportunity.

Good on the Qld Police. I hope that Victoria follow their lead. It is not hard to find a suitable place to pull over or slow down and indicate to other drivers that it is safe to pass. I am sick of vehicles towing caravans, horse floats etc holding up traffic when it is not necessary to do so. Like others have said, I also find a spot to let vehicles pass when I am holding them up.

The image is photo of an UNOFFICIAL website operated by a private citizen. It contains a mixture of truth, half-truth and outright falsehoods. It does the rounds every few months and typically starts bun-fights. For some reason, there are a number of internet myths and legends attributed to QPS in Bundy, Gympie etc. The real message is drive with courtesy and consider other vehicles.

It is not hard to find a suitable place to pull over or slow down and indicate to other drivers that it is safe to pass.

It is getting harder to pull over in some areas of Victoria,eg Loch to Lang Lang over bridge 15 ks approx. only two passing lanes and Between Leongatha to Koonwarra no passing lanes approx 7 ks.The problem is the new sticks and ropes that have been installed on the sides of the road,not enough room to stop to change a flat tyre and now to make it worse the sticks ropes are being installed down the centre of the road between Leongatha and Meeniyan.(single lane each way)A nightmare waiting to happen ,if an accident occurs,no way to get around it or emergency staff to reach the accident. ...............Peter

Its about it time the Police started enforcing this - these people that crawl along and become mobile road blocks are dangerous. We recently witnessed a raiser towing a van on the Nullarbor at 75kph. Just plain crazy

I recently pulled the van along the M1 in both directions between Hexham and the Tweed Coast. The road that is now finished is great with plenty of rest areas and double carriageway where people can easily pass slower vehicles so travelling below the speed limit should not be an issue.. The section that they are working on between Woolgoolga and Ballina is a different story it is mostly single lane with constant speed limit changes, there are very few safe areas to pull over with your van due to the construction work. I found this to be a challenge as not only would slower drivers hold up traffic but fatique started to become a problem, I was forced to travel probably another 50kms further than I really wanted when I knew for safety reasons that I needed to stop and take a break.

You can be charged with failing to show due care and consideration.
If you are travelling at 80 km/h in a 100 km/h zone you must pull over (when it is safe to do so) and allow cars to pass.
So when should you pull over?
Generally common sense prevails if you see four or five cars behind you that is the time to consider pulling over to allow cars to pass safely.

The offence is one of 'failing to show due care and consideration' to other road users.

It is NOT illegal to drive at 80kph in a 100kph zone. The offence is if, by driving at that speed on that particular road you cause a 'conga line' of vehicles to build up behind your vehicle, AND you do not take some action - eg pull over to let the 'conga line' pass, then you MIGHT/COULD be booked for 'failing to show due care and consideration'.

Of course, if road or weather conditions dictate that 80kph in a 100kph zone is a safe and sensible speed, irrespective of the amount of following traffic, then that would not be considered 'failing to show due care and consideration'.

I can only assume it was taken from an advertising or promotional poster or a screenshot of a that poster.

Seeing it was my post how about the link to your caravan clubs newsletter?...

I openly stated where the pic came from in my first post but you did not have the ability to comprehend what I said and more than that you didnt have the necessary skill to actually search the topic as did Tony.

Then more than that you waited until I replied be it politely, only to tell us all on here that you have already used the link Tony provided and so I ask again what is your point if not only to display your contempt of some on here.

And again another simple, and for some, an informative post turns into a pissing contest from one who really should know better.

Why do some members on this forum act this way? What do you really achieve?

A simple post and pic from another source has to turn into a look at me...look at me exercise.....

i am pleased that my post, even if totally unnessisarily over analysed, provided some valuable information to you caravan club.

The point is that with all the fake news and fake documents around we need to establish that anything we post on a forum like this has come from a reliable source. Facebook is hardly a reliable source unless something can be tracked back properly to a reliable source.

The link was provided Peter, if not by me as the op at least by the next contributor.

Your uneccessary comment could have been blurted out by you well before my reply to your baited question.

Just maybe this is an example of a post that is over analysed by a pedantic member to discredit another.

You had no reserves as to use the info in your in your caravan club newsletter before I provided a reply

Any wonder many do not participate here for fear of ridicule.

Can we all see how you presented information gained from this site to boost your status on your caravan club newsletter??
