RE: Water filtration in caravan

Every ones situation as far as water use will be different, personally I dont like drinking water from the van tank, its for shower water ,cleaning, washing up ect,we carry a fresh water supply in the car ,drinking water is a small component of water use but its nice to know its not coming from some chemically treated big black tank under the van...

The water you drink at home comes from a "chemically treated big tank" :)

Peter

Yes....

I'm the water QUEEN.....cos I drink soooooo much of it.

I usually filter anything going into the tanks down to 1mc. Or....I have a BEST filter for particularly dodge areas.

Then.....I filter it back to .5 micron for drinking, then either boil and refilter or distill. Depends where I am....not too fussy about my tanks as I process any skerrick of water I drink.....this isn't so much for germs but for the crap they put in the town water like chlorine and flouride.....man they even put sewerage in most of our water now .

I always research the water sources of the places I'm in.....that helps me make up my mind what I'm doin with it.......

For me it is worth it because we always want to use the safest and cleanest water source. I have a Big Berkey BK4X2-BB in my RV and I am very pleased with this gravity water filter, very easy to use and always ensure we have the best quality water.

We also have a B.E.S.T water filter. At the time of purchase, mid this year, it was the only one that guaranteed that it killed bacteria.

I use it in line when filling the tanks and I intend to use at the cold water sink tap. I'd be interested how other B.E.S.T uses fitted their B.E.S.T to their kitchen cold water.

Previously we used a bottle filter, I can't remember the name, that I bought years ago to filter drinking and cooking water when camping. It too guaranteed that it killed bacteria and viruses, of all thinks.

I wouldnt rely on any portable filter . Plus my worry is they can be a breeding ground?? Having said that I have two step filter . But I dont rely on it . We buy bottled water for drinking when out back. Boiling jug for drinking ! Every 6 months or so I put 1/2 a cup of pool chlorine in tank ( depending where I filled water from?) when I leave it a few days . In that time the chlorine dissipates . Some would argue . Theres nothing wrong with me !

We use a combination of chlorination in the tank and 0.5um filtration via carbon block immediately before consumption.
The chlorine stops bacteria growth both in the tank and in the filter.
This is similar to the treatment of 99% of town water supplies, except that their filtration is probably not that good.
It works.
Cheers,
Peter
