Expresso Coffe anyone ?

My opinions so far on the coffee fix while camping. Best is freshly ground beans, worst ground beans stored in a container over a week. Capsules vary so much, and I think the term you get what you pay for here applies. Best are the Nesspresso capsules, and I think the reason why they are expensive, is the method used to trap in the flavor. Some capsules are very bad and flavourless, the flavor having disappeared with shelf life. Others OK, go by trial and error.

When a 12v conical coffee grinder becomes available, I will be the first in the que.

Coffee begins to oxidise within half an hour of being ground - grind "on demand" is the best system.

Beans are best used within approx. 2 months of being roasted providing they are kept in cool, dark storage (does not have to be a fridge .._)

We have a machine in the bus, which we have to go out to (I need other stuff) in the next month. We aren't going to bother grabbing the machine. He is happy with the flavoured sachet coffees (I don't drink coffee). The machine is too much hassle....

I absolutely despise the pod machines. I've tried a few with hot chocolate, and while 1 was good, the rest were like water. And cold at that!

I have a hand grinder that I use when travelling. They are still available at some of the kitchen ware shops. Not all will carry in stock though.

works fine for me.

I'm old school. Instant coffee with coffee creamer and a couple of teaspoon of honey.

An evening variation is dump the coffee creamer and replace with a double whisky. This also serves to warm me up at 5 o'clock on winter mornings waiting for the fish to come on the bite.
