Fascinating. Thanks for that.

Now my question is... how do they know where to go?

We've all heard of DNA and the fact that it determines a whole lot of stuff that happens to us. They are starting to find that attached to the DNA are packets of information they believe is information to help us survive. How" Instinct" is actually information passed on in our Genes.

No wonder Salmon are returning to the stream they were born and animals know what to eat. And Snakes know where to return to. It's on one of the David Attenbrough's  Doccos so I hunted around on the net.

Learn something new every day. Just wish the snakes got lost Lol.

I'm way outside my scientific comfort zone here but:

I don't believe the DNA of any animal holds a map reference of their
birth location.

And animals don't always know what is safe to eat, I'm sure it's
something which can be Googled but my memory tells me there is much
evidence of animals eating the wrong food and dying. Are there not
certain plants which cattle must be kept away from.

I don't think "The DNA does it" is either a correct or satisfactory
answer to such mysteries.

Jung developed his theory around a Collective Unconsious observing the Monarch butterfly migration pattern. The migration takes several generations to complete the round trip.

Regards snakes, I would never be home if I tried to relocate the snakes around here.

Yep, same here.

Friend sighted a snake in the yard, called a snake catcher, unable to locate it, bill for $150, I don't think so!
