Hmm, I noticed that explosion started at the front of the car and moved rearwards. I wonder if this was fixed?

I rather think so.

Most of the energy would have been spent via the filler, which usually has a rubber coupling, and if there was too much it would have ruptured the petrol tank and headed in random directions.
