Van Steps - 2 step stool

I need to get a two-step stool for the van. Narrowed it down to two.

https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/2-step-stool-150kg-white-hl2step and

https://www.snowys.com.au/mgi-double-step?gclid=Cj0KCQjw3KzdBRDWARIsAIJ8TMS6daNjbD8d_x37eBEaTMLxWxs8i3iYFCiqoh53BnpMgYRwHK_5P20aAtnqEALw_wcB#q-and-a

Big difference in price. Anyone out there with either willing to comment on them? Both carry a good weight.

The Officeworks one has a small foot print but the first step has no back to restrict one's foot.

make a small box out of ply that will fit into your step well at door - slotted hand hole in top. It's only a one step but worth considering if you make it about 12 inches high.

If you go with one of the attached you posted I would go with the second one, looks much stronger. I have a metal one with fold up legs but is only one step.

Unfortunately Possum it isn't that simple. I actually have a home made 300mm step in my shed. I did consider making a two step of about 170mm per rise.

The drop from the van to the ground is 400mm. Currently have a single 200mm step. However 200mm is right on my wife's limit to step (dodgy legs). Last weekend we were on a slope with the left wheel jacked up about 100mm making a 300mm rise from the step to the van. The van is not suitable to attach a 2-step slide-out set of steps underneath.

Also looked at these www.vidaxl.com.au/e/8718475908791/white-spa-steps
I'm still trying to find out what weight they can carry. Needs to hold a 100kg bloke, a 30 can slab & a bag of ice

The milenco steps look more stable.

I too like the one on the second link.  Looks tough & most importantly made /sold by Milenco.  They make fantastic screw on mirrors so I like them as a quality supplier.

The first link didn't work for me.  Office works are to my mind cheap & sometimes nasty & certainly not into outdoors stuff.  MIlenco on the other hand, is said to be Europe's leading award winning CV bits manufacturer.

Personally, I would manufacture one to meet my exact situation.   It's easy to include a lift up lid for storage of thongs/shoes.  If you are really a smart arse DIYer then you could come up with a design that flips flops into a one step thingo when required.

I had a basic DIY one for many years but left it somewhere.  Probably went into someone's camp fire .... do that with plastic!!!!!    Another DIY plus I suppose.

We have the Milenco step and use it in preference to our slide out steps. We carry it in the step well of the van so its the first thing unloaded and the last thing loaded. Works for us.

the width of the tread on the second step (milenco) does not look wide enough - especially on the bottom step where there is no 'toe' hole - narrow treads are a recipe for disaster

It's the 220mm step on the Milenco with no toe hole that's a stopping point. Just clamped a block of wood at 220mm on my existing step for the wife to try when she gets home.

I've used a single plastic step before with 120kg rating but it started breaking up, replaced it with a metal folding step from BCF that was a little lower. It has plenty of step area, has a non--slip material on it. Is ok for us but we're not short.

I would be wary of the office works one. The treads do not seem very big and being an indoor product may not take too much UV.

This is the steps we use. If and when we need a replacement then this would be the replacement. The extra 110 mm would make them nearly as wide as the drop step in the caravan. Others you may consider are the Double Poly Step (looks a little wider than the ones in your link) and Double Folding Steel Step Wide.

PeterD. Thanks.

1. Spotted this but minimal information like carry weight and L x W x H that I can compare with others. Will look further as I like the "toe-hole". Found similar and it only held 120kg. Got a one step in our pantry that holds 150kg.
2. as per 1.
3. I found that one on a UK site but not an AU one. In a Google search, Milenco (UK?) seems to have 2 sizes in single & 2 sizes in double but the large double I cannot find anywhere. Maybe this is it.
4. Looked at that. Not keen on "assembling" it each time and making sure it locks into place. I actually have similar in my garage that stays opened.

Appears that item 1 only holds 120kg. Have a look at the price here. Think it has one too many zeros? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Double-dual-caravan-step-Light-Weight-steel-motorhome-stool-RV-camper-ACC566-/112000682723?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10

We use the one on e bay the double step come with our caravan, it age is only a guess but what I know from talking with previous owners  my thoughts would 4 going 5 years old, still in very useable condition, the reason for using a step is the first step out of the caravan can be bit long and this step seems to be economic cure.of that awkward problem along with the height from the ground, us older people have got to be super careful.

The step gets a lot of use for other things eg foot stool, drinks table, step to reach the under awning clothes line, cleaning windows. It certainly pays it way and rides just inside the door without to much trouble.

It fact its good value.

This is the one we purchased from our local Cvan dealer.

Works well for us as we have a high semi off Roader van.

I was considering building a ramp until we came across this unit.

Fits in the van and I have attached a small chain, as we have a habit of leaving 2 behind over the many years of vanning.  I know....Silly old fart.

JayDee.

I originally dismissed that type of stool but it's back on my list. I'm still looking. I'm waiting on a few replies as some on-line retailers just have step and price. No dimensions whatever. Milenco (UK) have two that I'm interested but neither are marketed in Australia but are available in NZ. Have to import them at a shipping cost over twice the cost of the step.

Why the insistence on a 150 kg loading? is there a heavyweight in the family?

Just under 120kg. Not that trustworthy of just 120kg and carrying groceries or a child. Know of people whose 80kg 3-step ladders have collapsed under them when just under 80kg and carrying something,

Fair enough. The metal double steps have taken nearly 100 kg plus load for over 10 years without ctacking.

Here is a set of stairs that fold away under the caravan that we would like. A bit of over kill but it would only be once.559BE864-A2D1-44FC-9A5E-E7EC1006BD10.jpeg
