Big Lug American seeking Big Lap advice.

Been so thankful for recent help on this forum, especially the warnings on drop bears, I'll be sure to wear my pith helmet. Advice so far:

Do 3 month laps because overlapping eVisitor Subclass 651 visas are the easiest to obtain, and the wife will tell me to go wank a wombat after 3 months in the bush if I try for perpetual road warrier status.

Buy a campervan in Sydney. The most awesome selection of rigs, so impressive.

Still have my heart on a hybrid camper trailer and Toyota land cruiser, but the advice is to get the wife a proper loo.
I'm thinking  Kea Freedom or Horizon Banksia, but dreaming of a Trakka Torino xtra remote.
Can I get to most bushy places? Karijini, Kondalilla, Kakadu, The Wobbly Boot?
I'm looking at 30-50K depending on how inept our governments are at time of purchase.

My plan, dream, obsession-

1) February-April-  Sydney to Cooktown and back

2) September-November   Sydney to Adelaide and back + Taz

3) April-June    Sydney to ( via Uluru )  Darwin to Broome

              - Bali for a week or 2 in June for visa and some  ulat sagu goreng -

4)  July-September  Broome to Adelaide

Sorry to miss out on Gapuwiyak.

Flying home between laps because I have no choice. Virgin Aussie over the big pond?

I live in the Sonoran desert so no advice needed on remote hot places with stingy things thanks.

Hope there is still room for 2 more on your continent.

Cheers- Toosun

Two thoughts ? 3 months is a very short time . Do you REALY require such an off road system to see everything. I mean you can go to most of these places with motorhome or. Caravan, ute / light truck . Not sure how much a lease or hire would work out ? We have weight restrictions and dont have too many heavy duty type F series here .. Mainly ( approx )1800KG Jap designed tow vehicles . Plus our licence, weight restrictions., Maybe 4WD type light truck motorhome ,,

Feb to April - still cyclone season up north so best to swap 1) and 2) itinery otherwise looks good.

$30-$50 not much for a reliable 4WD (Landcruiser) and camper - pop up shower tent to house a portaloo  would suffice toilet wise

Maybe $70k Aust ?? Consider a camper trailer ? There is a lot of them up in warmer climate who do distance and they travel ok over rough terrain. There is wide range.  Solid fold up floor is best .  Some value buying second hand direct off some one who has just done it .,
