RACQ Home Contents Insurance

We are relocating from NSW to Qld and looking to change from NRMA to RACQ .

We have been told by RACQ that they will not cover the Waico or generator in contents away from home .

Has anyone else come across this ?

That's strange - we are with RACQ and they cover my iPhone, specs and hearing aids away from home at extra cost. Maybe your caravan insurance will cover them. Maybe you could say they are part of your 'normal' household inventory for use when the power is off in a cyclone?

Good Luck.

Gday...

I don't think any insurance company will cover a Waeco or generator when away in the van and they are left outside under an awning - or even in an enclosed annex - even if chained/secured to the van.

I could be wrong ... praps someone else will advise which company they have and if they are covered.

cheers - John

Both are just insurance companies, why change just because you are relocating ? We demand new allegiances in league but NRMA can keep your money. But I have to wonder why one insurer in an extremely competitive market will cover certain items and another won't, unless other things come into play.

I don't know but I dropped RACQ House insurance after TC Yasi.

They upped the cost (including flood insurance) to $2700 for us (up from $1200) PLUS the poor sods who were severely affected in the Cardwell area & who had RACQ had to live under tarpaulins for 18 months because RACQ used (cheap) contractors based in Sydney & they were "too busy down there"! Suncorp were cheaper & use local contractors.

RACQ is ok for cars, caravans - not houses in Nth Qld!
