Overnight stop between syd-gold coast

Hello Nomads,

I am looking to spend an easy night on my way north. just Mum travelling with two young boys.

Been looking around kempsey/urunga. ideally easy access not too far from hwy, secure area, playground??grab dinner at the club or shops.

Been quoted $45 for drive thru at kempsey but not that impressed

appreciate your suggestions

Also this is probably my biggest trip to date anything i should consider as far as the drive is concerned???

I am going to shop for food once ive arrived to keep weight down & was going to tow with just a little water in the tanks.

Thought they could have a slosh around and clean out, is this the right idea?

Van is in being serviced now.

Thanks again

amanda

Strongly suggest you download WikiCamps prior to leaving - that will detail all free and low cost camp options see here; www.wikicamps.com.au/.

Easier towing with no extra weight of water, food etc. Just ensure you have a balanced caravan and look to have about 10% of weight on towball.

The Caravan Park at Urunga is only $25 a night for a powered site. With the Bypass it's off the highway so pretty quiet.  Also the roadhouse just down the road makes the best chips (with chicken salt) we're ever had!

Amanda we stayed at the Urunga CP on our way to the Gold Coast a couple of weeks ago and would have no problem recommending it, it's located on a lagoon straight across the road from the shopping centre and pub. I would check the rates though it cost us a little more than $25 and we are Reflection park members. Scotts Head is also nice but again it's a 10km detour off the highway from Macksville. Back in April we stayed at the Repton CP which is about 10kms from Urunga but access to Urunga is currently a problem as they are working on the bridge you had to make a fairly lengthy detour via the highway to get across (nice chinese restaraunt at Mylstom Bowlo though and they do run a courtesy bus to the Repton CP). We also stayed at the Crescent Head CP earlier in the year which can be popular especially with the old surfers so you would need to book ahead unfortunately that is also a 20km detour from the highway from the turnoff at Kempsey. For me with 2 young boys just for water safety reasons I probably wouldn't pick Repton as you are only a couple of metres from the Belinger River.

Cheers
BB

That would be Urunga Waters, on the old highway north of Urunga. The one in town near the shops and club is Reflections Holidays Parks Urunga at around 42 per night.

Peter I think they changed the name from Urunga Waters CP to The Belinger River CP which is on the river at Repton a few Kms north of Urunga - the cheapest powered sites (winter) are $40 and the premium sites are $44. We stayed there for a week back in April, it had very good amentities including private bath rooms as I said if you want to go to the restaurant the courtesy bus from the club at Mylstom will pick you up from the park.

WikiCamps shows a park at 4437 Giinagay Way, Urunga as Urunga Waters Tourist Park.

There was a chain of parks that traded under the banner of North Coast Parks, South coast parks and another name for the inland parks inland. A few years ago the north coast parks were all renamed "North Coast (town name)" When that happened it was possible that the other park grabbed the name Urunga Waters. On the way south this year I was a little confused when I saw North Coast Coffs Harbour relabelled as Reflections Holiday Parks Coffs Harbour. From their website:

Under the Crown Lands Act (1989) (the principal Act governing the administration of Crown Land in NSW) land resources are to be shared equitably in accordance with the principles of environmental protection, conservation and ecological sustainability, public use and enjoyment as well as encouraging multiple use of the land.

The Trust consolidates the operations of 37 coastal and inland holiday parks and a variety of recreation reserves located on Crown Land throughout NSW in some of the state's most iconic locations. In addition to Holiday Parks, the Trust also manages cottage accommodation in Yamba NSW and a cabin precinct in Hungry Heads NSW.

Looks like the state government has gathered them together and is promoting them all as a chain. I forgot to ask if they still had their parks card, they had a card that was like a coffee card, If you had stayed six nights at any of those parks you could have a seventh free when you paid for a night at the next park.

Sorry Peter thats a different park I didnt know that they actually called it Urunga Waters, its on the northern edge of town as you are driving out. Never stayed there as the parks at Repton and in town look nicer and are in better locations. If you are referring to the Reflections card they changed their system at the end of August they no longer give you a free night after 6 stays they give you 10% off every time you stay if you pay to join their club. If you are quick they will still honour their old deal - they did for us.

No worries on their card, I do not see me using their parks much in the next couple of years. TKS
