Gday Gang

Like most nomads we love watching TV (not to adds or reality crap).

One of the best things we did to satisfy this habit was a device called chromecast. Hardly Normal sells them for around $100

We then picked up a unlimited data deal with Telstra for $199 a month.. did I say unlimited EVERYTHING! Bit dear BUT read on

We now have netflix (about $6 a month) with 1000s of movies, miniseries, and docos (even cartoons for kids)

We pick up freeview for the news and The Chase Australia... Thats about all I watch on commercial TV

Now the great news is you only need a 4G signal (we get 2 bars here) I havnt tried 3G but Im assured its a working option with some slow buffering.

For just over $200 a month we can pick and choose any movie, doco etc we want to watch

Be good and travel safe... special gday to Doug, Dave (McJock) and Cindy

have you worked out how to use chromecast with no internet connection, to watch downloaded shows on netflicks?

Hi seajay,don't know if it's just me but I found even with out internet i had to hotspot my phone to my tablet and cast from the tablet.ð¤

I have a Telstra (ROKU) box that I got for free when I last upgraded my NBN connection. Costs me $100 for 100GB (NBN tier 50 speed) but just slows when I hit that. There are better plans now. Had NBN for 4 years now.

We still watch TV direct but use the Telstra device rather than record on the Topfield Video Recorder to watch anything already broadcast. The Telstra box is currently playing Shania Twain videos via Youtube.

Using our iphone hotspot and iPad, we can do the same. Don't need the Telstra box as we have all the TV apps (SBS, ABC, etc) plus FREE TV on our iPads. Does chew up our phone allowances when we've been away but it worked when we needed it.

We have an older Samsung in the family room that uses the Telstra box. However the newer Samsung SmartTV in the bedroom has all that built in.

SeaJay, No I havnt... I doubt there is a way unless it buffers to the device...
