Best Thermos

Hi All,

We love to have a cup of warm soup for lunch on cooler days, so we are looking for the best thermos style flask. Would love to here how long your thermos has kept your drinks/soup warm or cold.

This thread is right up our alley.

We have always traveled with two thermos flasks over the past 40 years.

We use them for tea/coffee & packet soups while we're out fishing in our boat or traveling with our camper trailer/caravan.

At night when we're sitting around the campfire we boil the billy & fill them so that in the morning we have piping hot coffee straight out of bed. In short we use them daily.

Our trusty THERMOS BRAND flasks died around 5 years ago, we'd had them for many many years.

After that we replaced them with NON THERMOS BRAND flasks twice in 3 years. Not cheap brand ones but supposed good quality ones.

None of them kept their contents hot like our originals.

Around 2 years ago we threw them all  in the bin & bought 2 THERMOS BRAND flasks & they are great!

Back on track. smilesmile

Thermos flasks are probably called by that name because THERMOS BRAND are the only company that manufacture good ones.

I have  Stanley stainless steel themos, been loved for over 38 years, been all over eastern seaboard of Australia travelly in trucks cabins. A bit dented and faded, had serval new caps which you can buy from a reputable hardware store, can not praise it high enough.

Fill it at 5am with boiling water, coffee at 9.30am, lunch time cup of tea after 12 noon  then maybe a cuppa at 3pm and if I was working late cuppa at 5pm, now that would be just hot enough.

When I first brought the Stanley I was leaving home just after dinner to be onsite 8 hours away and next morning be able to start the day with a cuppa, my Stanley has been part of my kit as a truck driver for over 40 years, the first one had a serious accident and died. Fell off a travelly truck and hit the road very hard punching the outer case.

I second Stanley had one for nearly 40 years , didn't get used like radar , but it never failed bounced around in my car and truck for many years , still got it but leaks a little round the stopper if left on its side.

Stanley for me, but have also had great service out of my old Thermos.

I feel my Stanley keeps contents hotter.

Regards.

A great question & good replies.

We use the flask for mid morning coffee break every traveling day but are often disappointed with the luke warm water.  I like my coffee steaming hot so a replacement is is in order.

Our no name but often used flask is a poor performer.

Looks like a Thermos for SWMBO & a Stanley for me or vice versa.

I place a limit of around $50 on presents from the kids (mind you SWMBO exceeds that by hundreds every year), so both of these just about fill the bill.

That's got XMAS sorted.  Thanks

For best results with stainless steel flasks, preheat first by filling with boiling water, then refill with your required beverage. You can resuse the preheating water, ie washing up water or just save it in another container.

We bought a 2 litre Primus brand flask with a large mouth so it's easy to fill and dispense soup - it's OK but not as good as an old Thermos glass one we use for hot water only.
Personally I think the large mouth or opening is a negative as the heat escapes from there. Consequently we carry one of each.

Does anyone know what the insulating medium is with the stainless steel flasks?

Good Luck.

We have the genuine Thermos travel mugs which always go with us when we travel. I also use one of them every morning on the way to work. One day we left Pt Lincoln at 3AM with a fresh brew each & at 1PM Deb decided she felt like a cuppa. Still piping hot. There has not been anything that comes even close to these.

We have 1x black & 1 x red.

We use Stanley & Thermos, but prefer the Thermos brand.
Have also found the the bigger the plastic stopper at the top, more heat loss from the contents

Thanks everyone for your comments. Largely due to Desert Dweller & JeffRae, I have gone online and purchased 3 Thermos flasks. I x 1 litre and 2 x small food flasks for soup. Helpful thread.

My 2 cents worth, also value my Stanley flask. For travel cups, daughter is a barista and their shop carries Avanti Gocups. Stainless and by far the best I have used. Shaped like takeaway coffee cup to fit in car cup holder's. No handle and not needed as outside never gets hot.

Let me add another request for info to this - what is the best travel mug/ coffee cup? My two priorities here are spill proof and keeping my coffee warm as I drive?
