Age of the Dinasaur Museum Winton

Hi, has anybody been to The Age of the Dinasaur Museum just outside Winton QLD. I understand its not fully finished, but worth a 2 hour visit. We will be travelling from Winton to Ilfracombe and want to stop there en-route.

The Child Bride just adores it =, I'm a bit Ho Hum on it now - she has "volunteered" as a archaeologist and just can't get enough - well worth at least one visit, but be careful you don't get addicted to it.

G'day mate

We were there a year or so back and after 5 hours there and heaps of photos, we still hadn't seen enough !!
It is a very good place to visit, yes it is 'commercial' in that it costs to get in and the cafe is pretty small, but the displays and the bus ride out to the stampede recreation was worth double the ticket price

Hope this helps
Phil

Hi Splottboy

Son and DIL (nomads without the grey lol) visited last month.
They love to get 'hands on' so had a bit of a dig.
This was one of their comments............

When we were getting a tour of the Dino Lab in Winton, the Paleontologist confirmed we had indeed found our very own Dinosaur Bone! To our surprise he was a lot more excited in the Belemnite (Squid Like Creature) we found. After running around excitedly showing it to the other Paleontologists we learnt that they had never seen one with fossilized insides. Only ever the hard rostrum shell. Finding fossils from 110 Millions years ago and becoming Amateur Paleontologists added to our latest skill set!

Here's a few photos

Congratulations and well done. Did you take an hour there ? Were you kneeling down and digging, can you just go in and have a look around without digging around as I have a big back problem. We will be passing though travelling south to Ilfracombe, but don't want to waste our time.. Today we had a look at the small museum in Winton and saw a display with footprints etc etc.

Colin

We have done the tour and loved it. You don't have to do any digging around on the tour, its all doable for any age. I would highly recommend you go.

We went in May and would totally recommend seeing the various exhibits.
My wife was totally enthralled, I went thinking that it would be boring, but went away saying that it was the best money (Entrance Fee) that we had ever paid.
So well laid out and explanations/talks were all well presented.
The Building that houses all the bones (Wrapped) awaiting work by volunteers was worth it by itself.
The bones of two dinosaurs were fantastic with the Video presentation of what they would be like in real life.
Definitely worth the money, there are some discounts for visits to the various Dinosaurs displays , Including Lark Quarry, Hughenden and Richmond.

My kids got down and dirty on the dig and loved it!
they have been care taking on remote cattle stations and have discovered plenty of their own fossils.
I think it would be pretty awesome whether you dig or not Splottboy.
A shame to miss it if you are up that way.
Cheers
