deposits

just a bit of a flow on from Kimberley Campers, the issue of deposits was raised and I thought I'd pass this on , I have never tried this but someone else may have .I was told this by a supplier of our old business , he was building a new home and he decided that the builders selection of kitchen appliances were not what he wanted . He went to Kleenmaid not long before they went belly up and purchased stove , cooktop , two door fridge , range hood and so on . The total came to well over the $20k . He paid a deposit via Visa Card , I think from memory it was half the total . They were to hold the appliances in their warehouse till the builder was ready . In the meantime they rolled over , he read this in the paper and rushed down to their office , where the liquidators had shut shop same as Kimberley. they were informed any deposits paid were lost. A third person told him to go to his bank and make a claim on his card as he never received his purchase. The bank refunded his deposit , I dont know how it works but he got his money back , I think from memory he said that there was some sort of insurance on your card that the bank doesn't readily inform you of. Has anyone else experienced this or heard of it . If it is the case then going fwd using a card for any deposits is a good thing.I dont know if it applies to a debit card maybe just a credit card ?

Yep.. Insurance on credit cards . Plus they are often the FIRST in the que if thereās any liquidity left? Had the same buying off bodgy person on eBay . Way way less hassle than going through eBay themselves. Same with travel overseas . Check on that ! Donāt take it for granted !!

Years ago we purchased tickets from Ansett for a big holiday and paid cash .7 days before we went they closed up and we lost the lot .We went to a travel agent to re book and the lady said you should always pay by credit card as you get your money back always .Ever since then we always pay that way even if they want a 1.5 % surcharge . {We lost 1700$ on Ansett ,however the day we finally flew out on our holiday we won 1750$ on tattslotto ! so sometimes the karma train stops by } . Cheers .

 I love that story!

I SO want to believe that karma exists and works.

Karma is always present, and often shows itself, especially if you subscribe to the 'Pay It Forward 'theory.

I booked an overseas holiday a few years ago just before we left the tour company went belly up and had not paid my accommodation to where we were staying. I did have to pay it again on arrival but on my return home I contacted my bank and they refunded me the original payment.

A few years ago I was going on an overseas holiday and the tour company went belly up just before we left and had not paid the accommodation to where we were staying in Vila. I had paid for this by my credit card. I did have to pay again while I was away. On my return I contacted my credit card provider and they returned my original payment.
