press button door latches

having had a few press button latches stop working (seems they have a limited life span) we have screwed magnetic flat catches on the lower cupboards and so now only use the press button closures when travelling

We are having a little trouble with a press button latch, would you be ever so helpful if you could put a photo up, so one non expert can have a go at fixing this pestie door that I have.

Thank you.

sorry for the poor quality pics - magnetic catches available from any hardware store - flat section attaches to the inside of the door and the magnet attaches to the cupboard frame - just need to line them up. The doors then stay shut without having to engage the button lock which is then only used when travelling'

What kind of trouble are you having?, a while back one of our latches would not latch closed, while not long before this a forum member was having trouble not being able to unlatch the cupboards. I dismantled the latch and found there is an adjustment, after adjustment no more problems. This is on a Jayco, it was some time ago, so I would have to go and do the process again if you want more info.

will check it out - they just get stuck sometimes and won't open or the button won't stay in when closed

It is a while since I adjusted the latch on one of our van cupboards, but I do remember that if one over adjusts in one direction, you can't release the latch once closed.

Funny. but one of my (also Jayco) push button catches started sticking over the last couple of days. The button wouldn't extend when pressed, I had to get a knife and lever it open each time.

After removing the lock I couldn't see how to adjust it. But then I noticed that the angle plate was slightly bent inwards. A quick bend outwards with the pliers and the catch worked normally. Apparently the tongue was catching on the plate and wouldn't release.

Don't know it that would fix your problem but might be worth at try.

(I imagine that the angle plate would be progressively bent as the door was closed with the lock tongue protruding.)

I found a periodic squirt of graphite powder into the locks fixes the sticking

These are simple and we have had no problems with them.
