Huge Caravan

Did someone say that caravans are getting bigger?

Spotted this one whilst driving past a caravan park this week.

Where is that guy with the drum on the back of the bike? Should pull that easily if he does a bit of leg work in the gym, barring head winds.

No wonder people are starting to make noises about special classes of licence for towing caravans. Now let me guess........what sort of tug to suit this little number????   no

C CarCar   Moped  Tractor

  • A motor vehicle (with or without a trailer), other than a motorcycle, that:
    • has a maximum weight of 4.5 tonne (t) gross vehicle mass (GVM)
    • is built or fitted to carry no more than 12 adults, including the driver.
  • A mopedfitted with an electric motor or an internal combustion engine (with a maximum capacity of 50mL) with a maximum manufacturers top rated speed of 50km/h that is not a bicycle. If you are riding a moped on a car licence you must not carry a passenger
  • specially constructed vehicle with or without a trailer.

Tones,
It could be towed by a Dodge Ram2500 with a pintle hook - providing the van weighs less than 6.5T. My brother-in-law has one to tow his headers.

Barring that, it would have to be a truck.
I'd guess this is a special for a special requirement. I guess there would be some significant tyre scrubbing on the inner axles.

Judging by the insignias on the side, is it a Jayco?

Saw one similar to it in a traveling circus a few months ago.

I have a 2016 Jayco outback and the trim and decals look very similar. Rod.

I did see the brand and I do not recall what it was, but it wasn't a Jayco.

Looks like it could do with an extra window or two though.

That van is a Southern Cross. I think they also do custom fifth wheelers.

Southern Cross closed up shop as at 31/07/2015.

They might have closed up shop but their vans were on display at the caravan show in Brisbane last time we went a bit over 12 months ago, so maybe Apollo have swallowed them up like they did with Coromal and a couple of others! The way the caravan industry is going, we could conceivably see a duopoly in the next few years

The stars in the decals is what threw me on that one Bill. You are, of course, right. Southern Cross used stars in their decals too. Mind you, having inspected a few Scenics before we purchased our Regal, I was not too impressed with the workmanship of the Scenics, even though they do manufacture big vans.

It was a bit difficult to read in the initial pic.

I think that I may know who it belongs to

DD said that he saw a similar one, in a travelling circus

I once saw a fourteen foot man, in a circus, wearing funny clothes

smile I wondered at the time, how he would have been able to fit into a normal bed smile

I am well aware that it isn't the same van

The picture was posted to show that the decals/colour scheme etc are the same as that on the van pictured in the original post thus identifying the brand of the van no
