Tennant Creek to Noosa

Hi everyone,

We plan on going from Tennant Creek to Noosa, and possible not going through Alice Springs. We would prefer to avoid roads with less trucks, so quieter roads if possible. Does anyone have any ideas. We have done the coast trip a few times, and the only place we would like to visit is Paronella Park which will add some time, which we have plenty of. Any ideas would be appreciated thanks ......

From Tennant Creek go north to Three Ways, turn right onto the Barkley Hwy [beaut road] and head to the Qld border. then to Mt Isa and work your way down through Western Qld via Blackall, Mitchell, Roma and then on towards Noosa. Hope this helps.

Or, instead of heading down through Blackall to Morven (where you will encounter plenty of triple road trains) you could head east from Longreach to Emerald on the Capricorn Highway, then south to Rolleston and either on to Roma via the Carnarvon Highway, which will have a few trucks on it, , and on to Toowoomba, Gatton, Esk, and through Kilcoy via Peachester and Beerwah to Noosa.
Or when you reach Rolleston, you could go left to the Dawson Highway and down to Biloela and down through Monto, Eidsvold and Gayndah, through to Gympie and on to Noosa - that is the way I would go. Less trucks again until you hit the Bruce Highway at Gympie and you only have about 40 - 50 km before you turn off at Cooroy for Noosa.
