Great locations up on the Atherton Tablelands for bush walks at Lakes Eacham & Barrine. Curtain Fig Tree is another great walk.

Maybe skip the sensational meals & walk a little further. You'll be better off for it.

A stroll along Cairns Foreshore is an enjoyable experience for all ages.

Hi John....heaps to do in Cairns,but one of the better ones is a trip to Kuranda on the train,which,I think,runs twice a day.Kuranda is compact and interesting,although a bit Touristy for me.You can then return on the skyrail,which travels above the rainforest,and operates all day,so you dont have to wait,as you would if you tried to return on the train.There are a couple of stations where you can get off the skyrail and go for a wander along the boardwalks.Always wise to go UP on the train because it does only two trips per day? Whereas the skyrail runs all day.Tjabukai (guess) is an Aboriginal cultural centre at the end of the Skyrail trip,and there are all sorts of displays,as well as tribal dances etc. Across the road is the Woolshed,which obviously is a display centred around farming activities.There is a cricodile farm a few kilometres up the road toward Port Douglas......many,many things to see,but some years since I was there.The tourist office will help you.Enjoy your trip.Cheers.

Go spend a day on the Atherton Tablelands (or several days if you can) and do the Waterfall circuit www.millaamillaa.com/waterfalls.htm Most of the waterfalls are viewable just a very short stroll from the carparks. Take a boat tour out to the floating pontoon on the reef and spend time snorkeling, or a day trip out to Green Island.

John, are you driving up here, will you have a vehicle when you arrive if you are coming by plane?

If you will be driving a 4WD a trip up the Bloomfield Track and return via the Mulligan Hwy. If you feel inclined you can break the journey with a night or three in Cooktown.

There is an excellent tourist centre in town that will give your more options than any forum will offer. Also try this web site.

G'day John,
Most things have been covered but while you're there a trip to the reef should be on the agenda - either to Green Island or going snorkelling on the reef itself. For the latter, you'll need to go to Port Douglas via the picturesque Captain Cook Highway.
Just bear in mind that this time of the year is "tourist season" & prices may be at a premium.

Thank you again all ,No Peter we can only be gone for 2 weeks then back to our Melb home to tidy up and do the settlement etc .my son In law is a big wig in Avis, so cars are no problem and clearly very inexpensive if he wants to stay in the will ! Our to do list is getting exciting now .Cheers .
