The only thing I remember about Borroloola is driving in to there one Friday morning at 7am and seeing the biggest mass of beer cans I have ever seen lying on the ground for 50m or more surrounding the pub - thousands and thousands of cans.

Thinking about it, I also remember seeing some Toyota pickups with cages on the tray and marked "Borroloola Night Patrol" - seems like the locals like a beer but need a bit of control.

Some years since I stayed their but from memory the park was fine. It does have a problem with petty theft but that is fairly normal around most places these days. One grocery shop in town and a couple of service stations. Leaded fuel ran out while we where their and we had a days wait for the truck to come in. A google of the town along with a look at the council site should answer most of your questions.

It's alright, if a bit dated. Staying out at King Ash Bay is far better. King Ash Bay is a fishing club, caravan park and small town all rolled into one. Its quite a unique place. There are both powered and non-powered areas to camp in. Vehicles of all types and sizes are welcome and all camping areas are dog friendly. Caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes, tents and swags are all welcome.There are no designated campsites and the club does not take bookings for camping. But dont worry, no one has ever been turned away because the campgrounds are too full.To camp at King Ash Bay, simply check in at the caretakers office on your way in. Its located across from the King Ash Bay Servo and open 7 days.

Agree with all the above but we were going to have a day trip to King Ash Bay without the van, just to have a look, but gave it away due to the corrugations. Biggest, wide & deep, that I have ever seen. But I rarely do dirt. Even the bypass track through the bush beside the road was heavily corrugated.

Might be OK if the grader has been down that way recently.

We were staying at Cape Crawford enroute to The Barkly Homestead junction.

We had a pleasant morning tea on the banks of the McArthur River in Borroloola while watching a local family on a fishing expedition. Got a wonderful picture with their permission.

WikiCamps reports are good. Plenty of reports dated this year and only one negative report. I think the only negative I see about the place is that it is a place you should lock your door at all times when you do not have it within your sight or are sleeping.

That "Award" goes to Battlecamp Rd between Laura and Cooktown in FNQ. The only respite was the rocky crossing of the Normanby River! I think there were corrugations on the corrugations!!!

We stayed at the Cape Crawford Heartbreak Hotel park (with Elvis) & went to Borroloola, the gates of the MacArthur Mines' loading facility & a National Park for a good day - when we were heading for the Kimberly area a couple of years ago.
Liked Elvis so much we stayed there on the way home too! Saw lots of interesting birds on the road east & south too!

Mr Red, one extra note - fuel was cheaper at Borroloola. We were there in July (with family causing us to cut short our Kimberly trip).
