Rest area does and dont's

Hi All,

Been on the road now for 7 weeks. I have notice the there are some King & Queens that have no concideration for fellow travellers. They set up in 24 hr rest areas and claim it as there own quite often taklng a space the should be used by another traveller e.g annex out chairs out sipping wine. This is happening more than a few years ago when we travelled to those that know who I am referring to wake  up some peaple need to stop later when travelling not midday and set up like your are in apark. NOTE: REST AREA.

Yes, it is sad really that some think that they are entitled.

We had a transport company before retiring and some of the stories our drivers told about people camping in truck areas is at a times, quite disturbing.

I believe it is only getting worse in all areas and not only truck rest areas.

I try to keep away from Semiās as our vehicle is 8m motorhome . Fill up spaces so they can move etc . Yes I have seen some camp like itās their piece of dirt . Then protest or ask ? Hope you donāt make much noise . When itās beside a highway ! I mean how grumpy and unwelcoming can some be ? Yet thereās others almost too friendly . Shhessh !! Often the ones who complain are the worst too !!

If I have to stay in a rest area I make sure I am out of the way as much as possible so not to stop trucks stopping and resting. Most 'Rest' areas I stay at though have both, trucks one way, vans the other way.

Work in with the truck drivers and all makes for a friendlier way of travelling around the playground.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

The inconsiderate will always be among us in all life situations, not just on the road. I try not to be one of them. Cheers.

Some of us are travelling, others are ON TOUR.

Saw an example of selfish behaviour recent in an agricultural supply business.

Guy walks in with empty gas bottle, told that he will have to wait 20 minutes for a fill.

He storms out with his empty bottle yelling ''don't they know that we're ON TOUR?''

Probably a rest area hog too.

Your not wrong Gazza there are those that abuse the privilege, treating rest areas as free camps particularly the mob on Wiki. I would welcome a 10hr limit with large penalties and policing.

Same when we pull up at beach etc . Best to move on or travel around looking around area . Itās not like itās not going to be there latter . Same with parking in places like boat ramp car parks . Just be aware of room, move on early . Leave no mess !

Hello gazza55, let me be the first to give you a very warm welcome. We have been travelling fulltime  a few years now and we see this only rarely. Thank Goodness. Which area have you been travelling? Most people are good, kind and curtious but like all society, there will always be an entitled  one. I always say if thats the worst thing to happen to you today, you are doing alright. Enjoy your travels. Who knows, we may meet up.

It's ironic isn't it Gary.

A post with a title criticising others for the way they settle into a free camp, and the do's and don'ts of that, and then you do one of the major free camping "don'ts", complained about many times here, by parking so close to someone else. I would be a rich man if I had a dollar for every time someone asked why people did this! Did you move away from them, or did you stay put. You stated the camp was full, as you arrived late, but I am afraid that really isn't an excuse for parking in their pocket almost, whether they set up their awning or not. I had someone do this at Nullarbor Roadhouse a couple of years ago, parked so close I couldn't wind up my vans legs

It pays to ensure that our own actions are squeaky clean, before we become too critical of others.

Anyway, enjoy your trip, and perhaps be a bit more accepting of the things other campers do. We all make errors of judgement sometimes!

May not have been that close ? Itās all subjective ? Parking bays lined out in truck stops are quite close . Besides who would put up an awning ? In a truck stop ?

I agree about keeping it up.... Maybe your neighbour with nipplies would also enjoy Nibbling Nobby's Nuts whilst having a beer.????

Welcome to the forum, Gassa55

I think that you may be trying to preach to the choir, but I do agree with the topic, you have put up
I have never met this type of traveller, but I have been told by others that they are out there

I have not met that many forum members, but of those I have met, we seem to be of the same mould

We are mainly helpful to others, and give consideration and cooperation, to others in the free camps we visit

I doubt if the travellers who take over the 24 hour rest areas, would be the type to contribute to a forum, such as this
