Hitch Ezy

Was going to fit a McHitch on our van but from information on here and elsewhere they had some issues disengaging when pressure was on the hitch , I have been looking at the Hitch Ezy and it looks a better unit and  a bit pricier , anyone on here retro fitted a hitch ezy on their van or got one on a new van purchased. Any feedback appreciated. Please dont confuse them with an Easy Hitch.

We have a McHitch it came with the van its the vertical pin type. We find it can be difficult to hitch up if not exactly lined up due to ground conditions mainly. There is no doubt IMO that the Hitch Ezy is a far better hitch so is the DO 45 or 35 from previous experience.
One of the problems with the McHitch is not only can it be difficult to hitch up but more importantly and not recognised by many is that it is not compatible with a WDS due to the offset pivot point causing the WDS bar to be forced forward and backward when turning putting great strain and unwanted forces on the hitch receiver on the tug unless the clamps of the WDS are allowed to slide on the A frame of the van. I have been towing without a WDS because of this but since purchasing a new tug I think it is time I changed hitches the only issue is whether to go with the Hitch Ezy or the proven DO 45. The horizontal type McHitch still has the compatiblity issue with the WDS so for me cant be an option.

Hi Moon raker , I think some of the top tier van manufacturers are opting to fit the hitch ezy or offering it as an extra , but that could be due to its 5 tonne rating , they also have a 3.5 tonne now.

I have just fitted a McHitch, now looking at these latest posts i'm slightly regretting it ! I'm not using my WDS Hayman Reece, I did find find it a problem unhitching on uneven ground on my driveway, one of the main reasons i will be using this was the profile of the hitch on the van, as you know on a Pajero the back door would not open with the van hooked up, fitted airbags which has now solved the problem, still, iv'e done it now, will put it to the test next month on a trip up to Darwin, fingers X'sd

Miroku if when you are unhitching wind your jocky wheel up till you see the tow shank move a little in the towbar receiver you will have no trouble unhitching. Thats how i do mine and never had an issue

Hi Mezza we have had an auto Mchitch and was relatively happy with it although used to have some trouble lining up from a angle . We had the 4t upgrade which comes with a new 5t Easy Hitch and itās terrific. A much better Hitch in my opinion Very easy to hook on and off. . No connection just a happy camper.

Hi Dhutime,
sounds good, i never knew they made one, wonder why they never tried to "Up-Sale'' the electric one to me, might take a look on their website ?
Mind you i really only need 3 tonne towing, but better to be over the top rather than under eh !
Thanks for the info

Miroku, They make a 3.5 tonne hitch easy now , checkout the website , it operates same as the 5 tonne same auto double locking mech, they told me it was tested to over 4 tonne with no problems , I was going to fit a 5 tonne one but not sure it would fit as it has a six bolt pattern , the 3.5 has the same 4 bolt pattern as the usual types , bolts straight on.

Mezza56, you dont have to use the 6 bolts, 4 is sufficient for the average caravan up to 3.5 ton. Regardless, you only have to drill 2 more holes for the 6 bolts.

i replaced a standard 4 bolt hitch with a Hitch Ezy and the holes line up perfectly, as I have a heavy van, I just drilled 2 more holes for the other 2 bolts, no problem,

Miroku and Moonraker, I agree with ????. I have a McHitch 3.5 and absolutely love it. I am a 4'11' hobbit, 45kg female and have no trouble hitching an unhitching the McHitch. You just need to adjust the jockey wheel a fraction and bobs your uncle. Very simple. I now caravan on my own so it has to be easy and safe.

I have been using the McHitch auto for 3 years now. Absolutely love it. Best hitch system I have ever had. No issues with unhitching. Hitching up you need to ensure that the car and van hitch sections are lined up height wise. Will then engage from pretty much any angle. I also have found that a very light smear of grease on the conical male pin is a big help.
