Gday...

Firstly, welcome to the forum Michael (yettogo)

You will certainly get a wide range of suitable vehicles to consider from the mob on here that's for sure.

However, I will resist providing my preference/s - because ultimately the choice is always a personal, and often, emotional one.

A bit like asking a mob of ya mates at the pub what to look for in a wife - 20 blokes ... 28 opinions. and probably all valid.

cheers - John

OK Michael, I would have thought you would have received many comments from those who recommend their vehicles as good tow vehicles. confuse

However, perhaps you should try reading here.

cheers - John

Like Rocklizard I am surprised at the fact that there has been little action here on this hot subject. There all out there enjoying themself.

Secondly welcome to the Greynomads mob.

I own a dual cab ute and it was super with my previous single axle 2 tonne caravan with no real extras but now we are pulling a 2700kgs dual axle caravan I find the set up gets loaded up on the drive of the tow vehicle, tub of the ute is big but you can not put much in there, my gross weight for the whole unit is around 5500kgs, I am allowed 6000kgs.

I said all this once before that I would never buy a canopy again, thats probably adds 60 or so kgs carrying that we can not use effectively, just adds weight.

Dual cabs come with very soft springs suspension systems, I spent around around $2000 having mine upgraded to tow my caravan and now it doing a nice job of it.

I think if I had my chance again I would perhaps have a single cab trayback or maybe really check out a extra cab trayback.

Hope in some small way this helps.

I have owned  various petrol and diesel tugs, Hi Lux 3litre turbo, OK but very agricultural, Pajero 3.8l petrol, great 4x4 but Oh so heavy on fuel, I sold it because of that, (30l per Hundred K's ) I now have a Ranger 3.2litre Diesel turbo, I have been getting ready for a big trip, and for peace of mind I have had the Torque converter replaced, transmission serviced, transfer case ditto, replaced the rear springs to heavier set, and have it fitted with extra deep cycle battery, 3000kva inverter, and also a scan gauge to keep an eye on things like transmission temperature, coolant, boost, etc. I like the car and am happy with what i have done, heading off in 3 weeks time, let you know how it goes after about 6-8 weeks and 20,000klm's.

Bob.

Since O.P. hasn't accessed the forum since 15/06 he can't be too interested anyway.
