We had a vehicle reg in SA , we wanted to re reg it as a vic car ,I had to cancel the rego in SA and then surrender the SA plates in vic , SA then paid me a refund pro rata on the remaining rego a month later.I had to take the car into a vic roads inspection office and they go over it to make sure of its details being correct . I sold that car and bought an ex Govt LC 200 at auction which had no rego , I got a permit from vic roads and made an appt for an inspection , they wouldn't reg it in my name unless I took it to them .Try ringing Vic roads and asking them if you can get it reg in vic prior to picking it up , if thats a no go then get a permit and take it back to Vic you should be able to get a permit online.
I bought my Colorado new in Townsville and used a address there for QLD rego then on my return to VIC a few months later I called into the nearest Vic Roads office after crossing the boarder (Wodonga) and changed over to VIC rego and my then VIC address. I went full time on road not long after.
I rang VIC roads first and that is what they told me to do. THey actually told me I had to change over ASAP. A few moths was ASAP. I removed the QLD plates and took inside, they and I did all the paperwork and they kept the QLD plates and gave me VIC plates. I took them outsiode fitted to Colorado and off I went. All done. They never checked the Collie at all. About a month later I got a cheque from QLD rego mob for a full refund due to difference. That was 4 years ago now. Where did that time go

Ask the dealer if he can register in Vic for you. If not. negotiate a reduction in price and don't have it registered in NSW, Get a permit and take it to Vic to register. You should phone both NSW and Vic to make sure you can do that.
Pointless paying Rego in NSW and then surrendering it to reregister in Vic. Losing money with Admin costs. You may also find if it has NSW Rego it may have to go over the pit in Vic as an interstate vehicle despite being new.
just found out that I can get a Victorian unregistered permit that will allow me to pick up an unregistered vehicle in nsw just as long as all trip details are known .. which route taken etc . once again you guys correct smile . cost about $50 for 3 days with third party insurance .
I just have to give them new vehicle details vin number etc
Your Vic unregistered vehicle permit is NOT valid in NSW.
If you intend to drive the vehicle in NSW then you will need to have one from that state's authority as well as one from Vic. They can be purchased over the phone.
