Hi we are going away for 10weeks and would like to know if turning off the power is a good idea as we have been told that you can have issues when turning the power back on with the fridge.
Also are down light sensors any good.
Hoping someone might help shed some light!! On these questions.
Before getting rid of base camp and going full time 3.5 years ago on the road I travelled for 8 out of 12 months for 3 years and always turned power and gas off. I also left fridge doors open and put a prop in front of both doors to stop closing for whatever reason. No problem with power or gas and fridge was cold within a few hours on my return.
Now, I don't have a power bill The sun does all the power for me
Can't help about the downlight sensors, sorry.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

I assume you are talking about turning the the power off at the main board. My fridge is plugged in to a surge protector. We get lots of blackouts here and no problems with the fridge when power is restored. Having said that, turn off all the power points before switching off the main board and there will be no surge when you turn board and then each power point on.
Dont forget to leave fridge door ajar to avoid mould.
Not sure what you mean by downlight sensors, but I have solar powered, motion detecting security lights on outside walls with the little solar panel on the roof.
Thanks for replies I will turn all off, sounds like no real issues. I will have to do a bit more research in regards to down light sensors. Thanks again. Hooroo! Phil
For whatever reason, we have never turned off the power at the house, while away travelling
On the other hand, as others have already said, if you live in an area with frequent blackouts, then it would pay to empty your fridge/freezer etc, and turn your power off
As we now have solar, we will not be switching off the mains power. However, will be turn off just about everything else for our upcoming winter trip. I've been monitoring my power usage since we got solar and I'm stunned how much background usage there is overnight - fridge, TV, and anything that glows in the night (LED stuff all over the house). We also have some security items that require 240v power but do have a limited battery backup should a 240v failure happen.
We have a fridge in the garage that is only used for several weeks over Xmas and on the odd occasion during the year. Was my mum's. Fires up OK when required. Just need to keep doors open enough so don't get mould.
