The road to Birdsville

G'day all, my wife and I are planning a trip to Birdsville via Warri Gate,Santos,Innaminka. Has anyone travelled this road recently? I've done a fair bit of research on this route but the more info i can get the better!! Around July/August is our window of opportunity. Cheerin.

What vehicle and how much of a hurry are you in?
Some of our favourite country.
All those roads are typical outback dirt roads. Typically not many corrugations and not a drama.
The worst would be the road via Cordillo Downs. It can be very stony. The road via Beetoota is better but longer and the pub is planned to open again soon, so I would go that way....

Cheers,
Peter

Our rig has done Gibb River, Boroloola,Hells Gate, Doomagee, The Cape,Wiepa. Not in any hurry, no corrugations sounds good, seen enough of them to last me a lifetime!! Not bad for an on road van! Thanks for the info. Fokesy.

Hi Peter....Interesting that you have done all those trips in a road van, after all the advice I have heard.                           What is your van,and what do you tow with? Cheers.

Santos is about 80km NNW of Warri Gate.

2016 we escorted a 23ft van through that country. We went from Tibooburra and Cameron Corner then via Omricon and Epsilom to Innamincka. No road dramas at all.

Cheers,

Peter

Thanks for all the info, our rig is a 2015 Hilux ute towing a 2012 Retreat Fraser plus my Triumph on the back of the ute. We are going to Cameron Corner in July then back to Tibooburra to travel to Birdsville. Cheerin.

If you've done the Gibb, the Cape and the old Savannah Way from Roper to Hells Gate with a van on the back, every other road is a breeze and a Retreat Fraser will handle it with aplomb.
Let your tyres down on both the tug and the van and drive to the conditions.

Just not sure what you'd need the Trumpy for out that neck of the woods.
