Gday all,

We overnighted at Norseman 2 years ago on our way to Esperance then Perth. Ive got to say the service we say at the first servo just before the turnoff (cant recall if it was BP or Shell) was brilliant, friendly and the food outstanding.

On venturing into town a different story, I do believe the locals (including small businesses) dont like tourists. We will go back next time we point west BUT a few decent folks may help Norseman.

BTW, why would anyone live in Sydney or Melbourne on purpose? Im a Sydney boy and hate the place. Melbourne is a close second on my list (lived in Sale Vic for 4 long years)

I certainly hope that Norseman is not doomed

It has/had always been a workers town, until the main underground mine closed
Tourism has always been something which was on the backburner

The people from Norseman are no different than others

There was talk that it was doomed many years ago, when they moved the quarantine station, from near the town to its present position at the border
They moved the quarantine station as there was talk of people in four wheel drives, cutting across from Balladonia to Esperance

We have all seen small towns disappear, if Norseman is doomed, then we have no one to blame except ourselves

One note of caution when having a shower near the Tourist Information Center
You buy a token for $2
Make sure you are ready for the shower before you put the token into the box
The timer starts when the token is used, and not when the water starts flowing

We have called at Norseman a few times and found it to be a friendly town especially the lady at tourist information centre and as others said there is a great little cafe for lunch or just a coffee stop.

We bypassed the BP servo at the intersection and drove into Norseman and purchased fuel at the Caltex on the right hand side as you drive into town, the fuel was significantly cheaper which we had been told about by other Nomads.

Well worth a stop and it is generally a friendly community from our experiance.
